Te Wiki o te Reo Māori 2025 (Māori Language Week) is being celebrated from September 14 to September 20, 2025.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the first Māori Language Week, which grew out of a movement to revitalize the language.

The theme for 2025 is “Ake ake ake – A forever language“.

To support, acknowledge and celebrate Te Reo Māori as an official language of our country, we will share with you some of our favourite whakataukī that represent our values as a practice.

He aroha whakatō, he aroha ka p**a mai - If kindness is sown, then kindness is what you shall receive.

Earlier this year, Fifth Avenue Family Practice were nominated for 2025 General Practice of the Year and we were stoked to become a finalist in this category 🥳

Over the weekend we had staff members attend the New Zealand Primary Healthcare Awards in Auckland to celebrate the amazing effort that all of our staff put in to help achieve equitable health outcomes for our patients.

This is the perfect opportunity to acknowledge all of our staff from our reception, admin and nurse teams, to our healthcare assistants and our doctors that contribute daily to the well-being of our patients - we couldn't do this without you!

Dr Irina Bardsley and Dr Nick Hanna are our awesome doctors here at Fifth Ave Family Practice that specialise in travel medicine with an added bonus that they are both certified Yellow Fever service providers.

Our aim is to make your travel preparation easy, cost-effective and tailored to your needs making sure you are ready for your upcoming adventures.

International travel can be stressful enough and fortunately, most travel-related health issues can be prevented by pre-travel planning, safety precautions and vaccinations.

We offer this service to registered and non-registered patients so if you are currently working on some travel plans, make sure to go to our website www.fifthavenue.co.nz fill out a travel questionaire and a receptionist will get in touch to help organise an appointment.

It is best to touch base with us 6-8 weeks before you are due to depart, we look forward to hearing from you 🛩

Seasons Greetings to our Fifth Ave Whānau 🎅

With Christmas next week, a lot of people have already wound up their work and schooling for the year. Yay! Time to enjoy some quality time with the family and a well deserved break 🥳

See listed our opening hours at the practice over the christmas/new year period. We will only be closed on the public holidays and our 10th ave site is closed from the 23rd of December and reopens on the 6th of January so all appointments within this time will take place at our main site on 5th ave.

If you've been in the practice this week, you might have noticed some lovely new art hanging on our walls😁

Fifth Ave were well overdue for an update on the art we had displaying and we were excited for the opportunity to show off some amazing local artists.

These beautiful pieces are available for purchase. If there is a piece that catches your eye, there a plaques located next to the artwork that have details on how you can go about purchasing a piece.

We will share more information about the individual pieces and their artists over the week - so watch this space or even better have a look while your in the photos don't do them justice!

This week is all about celebrating Te Wiki o te Reo Māori where New Zealanders can show their support for one of our official languages here in NZ.

The theme for Te Wiki 2024 is 'Ake, ake, ake - A Forever Language representing resilience, adaptability and endurance.
Our whakataukī here at Fifth Ave is that 'We choose to be inclusive'.

Good morning whānau 🌞

Just an FYI that our practice will be closed today from 12-2pm as we hold our annual full staff meeting. Our phones will also be off during this time.

If you require urgent care within this time - you can go to 2nd Ave Accident and Healthcare or the Papamoa Consult365 walk in clinic.

You can also call the Healthline number 0800 611 116 or Practice Plus 0800 772 2758.

Apologies for any inconvenience - we will be up and running again from 2pm.

And just like that we are in September ☀️🌷
Not only are we on our way to warmer weather but September is also Cervical Screening Awareness Month.

Before we get into the busy end of the year, now would be a good time to see if you are up to date with your cervical screening and book in an appointment if needed.

We have nurses appointments available almost daily, call reception 07 578 7087 to book a time. Most patients can complete their screening via a self swab but the nurse will determine this at the start of your appointment.

Cervical screening is so important and allows any irregularities to be caught and treated early - so make sure all the important women in your lives check that they are up to date as well. 🩷 🩵

Tomorrow is Daffodil Day 🌼

Daffodil Day is the Cancer Society’s most iconic and much-loved fundraising campaign raising funds through donations.

This is to protect future generations of New Zealanders by helping to fund world-leading cancer research and vital prevention programmes.

Our Health Improvement Practitioner Rebecca has put together four FREE informative wellbeing sessions which will be run at our 10th avenue site.

Session One covers 'Foundations for Health.'
Session Two covers 'Skills for Stress.'
Session Three covers 'Emotional Resilience.'
Session Four covers 'Living a Meaningful Life.'

You might only want to go to one session or you might find attending all four beneficial - as we only have 15 spots per session, it's best to contact the reception team to secure a spot.

If you haven't already heard, Fifth Avenue Family Practice now have a specialised travel clinic 😎

The clinic runs Wednesday afternoons at our 5th ave site - so if your planning on heading overseas give reception a call and we can help organise an appointment with our awesome doctor.

We have an online questionaire on our website that we need completed before every appointment. So you can either fill these in online and send back to us prior to your appointment or bring in a hard copy - this helps streamline your appointment.

Added bonus, you do not need to be enrolled with Fifth Ave to see our travel doctor so let all of your friends and whānau know.
