My new baby silkie chicks have brought so much joy to my life but…

…they are high maintenance. Constantly changing their water because they’ve flicked wood shavings into it, vacuuming the floor around the crate, shooing away my 4 cats, cleaning poo, changing the bedding.

There’s always something to do here on the farm

But I honestly love it. It’s not a chore for me.

This is the thing with life…it can be busy but not FEEL busy. And vice versa, you can have not much on and feel overwhelmed.

So the amount of busy is not the problem. The solution is establishing an inner peace.

If you have an inner peace that’s there no matter what the circumstances, busy, not busy, then this imo is winning at life.

I took a wellness workshop for a group of early childhood teachers once and afterwards someone came up to me, all starry-eyed, and said “Wow! I never knew mindfulness was so….everyday-ish. I thought it was Buddhist”. 🤔 There are SO many misconceptions about mindfulness and meditation. We often only see and hear snippets of someone’s practice. But in truth, meditation is a state of being. Being present in the moment and not inside your thoughts. Observing the moment with no analysis. Just experiencing it. And you can do this whether you are chanting, singing, moving, praying, or being still. You can do this if you’re Buddhist, Jewish, Muslim, Christian or not aligned to any religion at all. The effect is still the same. 🙏

In May I hosted a Pink Ribbon Breakfast to fundraise for Breast Cancer (in honour of my mum who has recently had surgery and radiation.) On the day, instead of a game of pin the bra on the b***s I opted for something more....unconventional.

We practiced what to say (or what not to say) when someone is sharing their story of cancer.

It was SO good.

And the room flowed with compassion and connection.

At its core meditating does not require you to sit in a certain position, play music, chant or anything else. All you need to do is to place your awareness on something, and notice it without judgement or analysis. It’s really quite easy to drop little moments of meditation into your day when you know how. What! Did you know this? Does this mean that we are not even here for half of our lives? But did you also know that there is Intentional Mind wandering - like when we lose ourselves into a creative project or problem solve, and also Unintentional Mind Wandering - which is when we have no control over our minds going off to think about worries or past hurts or rabbit holes or anything that you didn’t intentionally want it to think about. Meditating can help us to focus our thoughts on what we want. And this my friends is Freedom. Freedom to choose your thoughts, your focus, your manifestations, your healings, your life. Need help? It's my birthday today!
