🌸You deserve a moment, Mama. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, a little worn out, or just craving connection or help with your little one, you’re so welcome here.
Our next In-Person Support Group is coming up:
Monday 28 July 10am – 1pm
Lifezone Church, 7 Oak Lane, Judea
(We’re not affiliated with the church, we simply use this lovely space because it’s calm, has a secure play area, and plenty of parking.)

Yes, the kids + babes are absolutely welcome. Childcare is lovingly offered right in the room (we’re so grateful for Jan, who comes to help), so you can take a breath, enjoy a cuppa, and be supported by others who truly get it.

Here’s what you can expect:
– A safe, gentle circle of Mums
– Meditation and breathwork to settle in
– Local wellbeing info and support
– Tea, coffee, and homemade baking
– No pressure to share, just come as you are

✨ Real support. Soft landings. Deep exhale. Message us to join or email truecoloursreferrals@gmail.com. We’d love to see you there, and please forward to any Mama's that would benefit from this support.

This week is Birth Trauma Awareness Week. Did you know that 1 in 3 māmā in Aotearoa report their birth as emotionally traumatic? That’s 50 births every day!

Help us to raise awareness by taking Birth Trauma Aotearoa’s 50 for 50 challenge. Because the more we shine light in these important issues, the more we can help māmā access the support they need.

Birth trauma is a major contributing factor to postnatal distress and mental health challenges. If you need support following a traumatic birth, please reach out to us and we can refer you to someone who can help 🩵🩷💚

Birth Trauma Awareness Week is here and we’re again inviting people to take part in our ‘50 for 50’ campaign 💙

50 for 50 is all about raising awareness of the prevalence of birth trauma, as well as acknowledging and honouring Aotearoa’s birth trauma community.

50 for 50 invites you to do 50 of something this week, as a reflection of the number of women/birthing parents impacted by psychological birth trauma PER DAY in Aotearoa.
Research tells is that 1 in 3 Mums report their birth as emotionally traumatic – in Aotearoa, that’s 50 Māmā PER DAY 💙

Your 50 doesn’t need to be complicated or big and it’s totally up to you what you do.
We’ve shared ideas of things you could do but the options are endless.

We love seeing the 50 things people do to send some aroha to our community - let us know if you get involved! 💙

🌿Here’s a simple grounding practice. This gentle exercise is a beautiful way to come back to the here and now, especially when things feel a bit much. It’s based on the “Window of Tolerance” by Laura K Kerr and helps support emotional regulation, presence, and calm.

Try it first thing in the morning, in between feeds, while bubs sleeps and anytime you feel overwhelmed or scattered. Will you give it a go?

Meet Choiwee Moon, one of our In-Person Group Facilitator. She is a passionate mother of three and founder of Mama Chow Holistic Healing. Her own journey through motherhood, postnatal depression, and healing from trauma inspired her to create safe, supportive spaces for other Mama’s to feel seen, heard, and empowered 💛

“Navigating through my own journey of motherhood; having my first baby at 20, being diagnosed with pre and post-natal depression after my second bub, and then becoming a single mother six years ago, has given me inspiration and passion to support other mums.” - Choiwee

She brings deep compassion, lived experience, and holistic wisdom to every True Colours circle, and we’re so lucky to have her on the team.

If you're unsure about coming along, please know the mothers always leave feeling so much better after a workshop! Register for the 16 July (online) or 28 July (in-person) and more info is here: https://www.honouringthemother.com/services

What is Post-Natal Depression? Pregnancy and early motherhood can be beautiful, but also really tough. Perinatal distress is when emotional or mental health challenges show up during pregnancy or after baby arrives. Here are some signs to look out for:
– Feeling sad, anxious or hopeless more often than not
– Struggling to bond with your baby
– Constant worry or feeling on edge
– Exhaustion that goes beyond lack of sleep
– Withdrawing from whānau or things you usually enjoy
Every mother’s experience is different, but you are not alone. There is support, and healing is possible. If you’re wondering if what you’re feeling is more than just the baby blues, this simple screening tool can help: https://healthify.nz/tools/e/edinburgh-postnatal-depression-scale

🧡Upcoming Support Groups are July 16th (online) and July 28th (in-person). We're here when you need us. Please register by DM/PM or call us to have a chat.

A bit about me

I’ve attached this photo below of myself and Ayla at 11 months, when I was going down what I call the “Rabbit Hole”, this photo was taken just before I was diagnosed with Post-Natal Depression. It's amazing the face we present to the world whilst inside there is chaos and complete overwhelm! I keep this picture on the wall of my office as a reminder to not hide or pretend but to express, own and allow whatever is presenting for me as a Woman and a Mother.

Becoming a mother has required an enormous amount of learning, especially about myself, like letting go of control and expectation. Our first year was traumatic with reflux, my daughter Ayla was in pain and cried most of the day and night, the stress of this resulted in post-natal depression at the end of 2014. I experienced many barriers to accessing support for myself as well as the stigma and shame associated with mental health issues which is still very prevalent in our society. I realised I wanted to be part of the proactive change that is required. Although there are some great services available, there isn’t the awareness or conversation and connection occurring to support those when they are at their most vulnerable. In talking to parents about my own experience it become very clear to me that there was a need for further practical support. When you are in the haze of depression it can be difficult to decide what help you do need - this is why I created a service to help advocate for parents.

True Colours - Honouring the Mother, runs both physical support groups and online options too. The inspiration for the name comes from the 80’s Cyndi Lauper song True Colours which talks about shining through all the colours of the rainbow. I believe as parents, we are exposed to the range of experiences and emotions, the light and the dark. Experiencing post-natal depression with my own child has taken me along that spectrum of colours from the very dark to the light. Parenting can present the opportunity to look within and find out who you are and who you would like to be as a parent, your true colours so to speak.

The physical Support Group meets monthly at the Tauranga Parent’s Centre, located in the Historic Village, 17th Avenue. Childcare is provided onsite, by arrangement; we are all located in the one building so children can see and hear you but are occupied so your participation and presence can also occur. Group is held generally on the last Monday of each Month from 12-2pm, for specific dates please see our event page. The Online Group was launched late 2019 and runs twice a month, again please see our events page for sessions. Both services are now funded so is free!
