🎄Merry Christmas, from our hearts to yours. We’re so passionate about this mahi, and it’s been an honour to walk alongside so many Mama this year. Thank you for trusting us with your stories, your tears, your laughter, and your tender beginnings.
We also want to gently acknowledge that Christmas isn’t always “merry.” For many Mum’s, it can be overwhelming, emotional, or just plain exhausting. If you’re not feeling festive, you don’t have to pretend. There is nothing wrong with you, and you’re not failing, you’re human, and you’re doing your best.
Our first group next year will be 19th January 2026. We’ll be out of the office from 17 Dec to 12 January.
Take care, be gentle with yourself, and know you’re not alone. We’re sending so much love your way, and we look forward to supporting you in 2026 🥰

What are the “small things” a Mama can do? Some days, the smallest things are actually the bravest 🥰
Some days, doing nothing is looking after yourself, letting the dishes wait, resting when you can, and releasing the pressure to keep up.
Other days, getting outside for a walk around the block might shift something inside you, even if you don’t feel like it.
Maybe it’s sitting in the garden with your feet on the earth while you feed bubs or sip a cup of tea, reminding yourself you’re doing an amazing job (even if today you can only think of one thing you did well).
And sometimes, it’s getting to that peer support group, or meeting a friend for coffee, because connection makes everything feel just a little lighter.
🌿Whatever it looks like, tiny acts of care count. You don’t need a big plan or perfect routine. Just meet yourself where you are, with gentleness.

🌿You don’t have to do this alone. Parenting was never meant to be done in isolation, yet so many mothers find themselves navigating it without the support, connection, or community they deeply need.
Our peer support groups offer a soft, non-judgemental space to connect, share, and feel seen by others who get it.
You deserve support, understanding, and people who will walk alongside you. We’re here when you’re ready.

Christmas can be beautiful, but it can also feel overwhelming, especially with family pressures, dynamics, and expectations.
Can you give yourself permission to say no, choose rest, and honour what feels right for you. If that’s you, you’re not alone. Your needs matter. It’s okay to ask for help, set boundaries, and choose what supports your wellbeing. This season can be tender, go gently, Mum.
One moment at a time, one breath at a time. You’re doing enough.

A big heartfelt shoutout to Bellyful , an organisation doing incredible mahi in our community. We do many referrals to Bellyful when Mum’s are needing extra support, and time and time again, their kindness makes such a difference.
A nourishing meal delivered with love can mean relief, rest, and a moment to breathe for a mum who is exhausted, overwhelmed, or simply stretched beyond capacity.
Thank you for the mahi you do, the meals you lovingly prepare, and the care you offer families when they need it most. We see your hard work, and we are so grateful.
Here’s to community, compassion, and knowing that none of us have to do this alone. 💛

🎄 End-of-Year Celebration for Mama. We’re wrapping up the year with a special in-person gathering filled with extra care, warmth, and celebration for our beautiful Mama community.
This month, we’ve organised a practitioner to offer mirimiri (therapeutic massage) for our mamas, a gentle moment just for you, to soften, reset, and receive.
There will be space to connect, exhale, share, and soak up a little festive love before the year closes.
Spaces are limited to 8 Mama, so be in quick if you’d like to join us. You deserve nourishing support, rest, and community, and we’d love to celebrate this season with you ❤️☕️

💗Sometimes you just need a gentle reminder that looking after yourself is just as important as looking after your baby. It’s amazing how these small moments of care can make such a big difference. Here’s some ideas:
🌻Sit quietly with a cup of tea or coffee (or phone a friend or whanau)
🌻Take a few slow, deep breaths
🌻Step outside for a minute of fresh air + bare-feet on the earth
🌻Listen to a favourite song or podcast
What else would you add to the list?

👏Meet our amazing big-hearted Founder, Michelle Hall. Her own journey into motherhood began with an empowered home birth, but the first year brought stress, isolation, and postnatal depression. With support, she discovered her maternal identity and realised that mothers thrive in community, not isolation.
This inspired True Colours – Honouring the Mother, a safe space for Mama and whānau to be seen, heard, and supported. Michelle calls this her heart work, and over the past eight years, she’s guided countless mothers while completing research on supporting perinatal mental wellbeing in Aotearoa.
Now, she’s thrilled to watch the amazing team continue this important mahi, bringing wisdom, empathy, and strength to every parent’s journey.

💗Plus let’s not forget connection matters too: Mum’s share, learn from each other, support one another, and often exchange numbers to stay connected outside of the group.
☕Our next in-Person Support Group is Monday 20th November, 10am–1pm. 👶 Bubs + toddlers are welcome to join, shout out to Jan who looks after the littlies so you can take a wee break and enjoy a warm cuppa and baking from Good Bi***es Baking (yum!)
A Gentle Centering Moment for Mamas (for being in the “here and now”, from the Window of Tolerance, Laura Kerr)
When everything feels a bit too much, try this simple grounding exercise - it only takes a minute or two.
-Sit somewhere comfy and lengthen your spine (you can do this while feeding, sitting in the car, or before bed).
-Place one hand on your heart, and the other on your belly.
-Take a slow, full breath in… and let it out gently.
-Feel your hands rise and fall.
-Notice your body softening with each breath.
You don’t have to fix or change anything, just breathe and be here 💗
☕Our next in-Person Support Group is Mon 24th November, 10am–1pm, we’d love to support you or refer if you know someone who would benefit from our group | 021 169 7662

I’ve attached this photo below of myself and Ayla at 11 months, when I was going down what I call the “Rabbit Hole”, this photo was taken just before I was diagnosed with Post-Natal Depression. It's amazing the face we present to the world whilst inside there is chaos and complete overwhelm! I keep this picture on the wall of my office as a reminder to not hide or pretend but to express, own and allow whatever is presenting for me as a Woman and a Mother.
Becoming a mother has required an enormous amount of learning, especially about myself, like letting go of control and expectation. Our first year was traumatic with reflux, my daughter Ayla was in pain and cried most of the day and night, the stress of this resulted in post-natal depression at the end of 2014. I experienced many barriers to accessing support for myself as well as the stigma and shame associated with mental health issues which is still very prevalent in our society. I realised I wanted to be part of the proactive change that is required. Although there are some great services available, there isn’t the awareness or conversation and connection occurring to support those when they are at their most vulnerable. In talking to parents about my own experience it become very clear to me that there was a need for further practical support. When you are in the haze of depression it can be difficult to decide what help you do need - this is why I created a service to help advocate for parents.
True Colours - Honouring the Mother, runs both physical support groups and online options too. The inspiration for the name comes from the 80’s Cyndi Lauper song True Colours which talks about shining through all the colours of the rainbow. I believe as parents, we are exposed to the range of experiences and emotions, the light and the dark. Experiencing post-natal depression with my own child has taken me along that spectrum of colours from the very dark to the light. Parenting can present the opportunity to look within and find out who you are and who you would like to be as a parent, your true colours so to speak.
The physical Support Group meets monthly at the Tauranga Parent’s Centre, located in the Historic Village, 17th Avenue. Childcare is provided onsite, by arrangement; we are all located in the one building so children can see and hear you but are occupied so your participation and presence can also occur. Group is held generally on the last Monday of each Month from 12-2pm, for specific dates please see our event page. The Online Group was launched late 2019 and runs twice a month, again please see our events page for sessions. Both services are now funded so is free!
The intention of the group is to provide a safe space for mothers to connect, share and acknowledge their struggles in a non competitive, non-judgemental environment. It enables women to create a connection and build a community of people who understand & have experienced depression & anxiety. It also brings attention to our personal wellness and can inspire by listening, learning and being heard by each other.
So if you are needing support or know someone who needs support from me please message me and I’d be happy to talk to you.
