Have you tried a reformer based class yet?
The reformer adds assistance and resistance as you need it and the smaller class size (max. 6) helps you to progress more quickly.
Ideally come twice a week, but classes are booked individually to suit your schedule 😀
Term 2 Reformer classes at the Miles Lane Studio:
Mondays: 9am, 4:30pm & 5:40pm
Wednesdays: 7:45am & 8:55am*
Thursdays: 9:30am*, 4:30pm & 5:40pm
Fridays: 9am^
* Strong and Stable classes
^ Intermediate+
All other classes are “Mixed Ability”
Booking is online via the website. Choose the $20 Trial class for your first one. After that, you can either book single classes at $33 each or prepay $240 for an 8 class pass 👍
Reformer classes are a full 60 mins so we have time for some lovely stretches too

Pilates for Men?
The Pilates Method was named after Joe Pilates. Originally designed for men who’d been injured during WW1, Joe Pilates was the epitome of good health and fitness through to his late 80s when he died from smoke inhalation after a fire at his studio.
On Tuesday eves we have a Men Only Mat class at Matua Community Hall, because men’s needs are different to women’s. Term 2 starts tomorrow. Come and join us! You won’t be the only one who can’t touch your toes & you won’t be the only one with a dodgy knee or an old shoulder injury!

If you haven't moved much over the Easter long weekend, don't worry! "Recovery time" is just as important and while you might be starting to feel a bit weak or tight, your muscles remember and it won't take long to get back to feeling your best😁.
Booking for Term 2 mat classes at Matua Community Hall and Tauriko School is now OPEN for everyone. Book online using the link in the comments or via the website.

Personally, the "hokey pokey" ones were my favourite! 😉

If you're wondering why I'm walking around with a silly grin on my face this week, it's because I've just been approved by ACC/BOP Sport as a provider of "Live Stronger for Longer" exercise.
It's actually nothing new, because our Wednesday 8:55am and Thursday 9:30 am classes at the Studio incorporate balance and lower body strength exercises anyway and I've always taught some classes for people wanting to improve their bone strength.

But it's nice to be accredited too isn't it?

Or join one of our classes 😁

“Can AI replace Pilates Teachers?”

Google says:
AI will NOT fully replace Pilates teachers but will significantly reshape the profession by acting as an advanced, supportive tool. While AI can handle programming, analytics, and routine tasks, it lacks the human empathy, nuanced, real-time physical adjustments, and trust-based connection essential for injury prevention and emotional support.

But …..
Will AI be able to adjust a group lesson plan appropriately for the (e.g.)sore lower back you’ve turned up with today?
What sensors would be required to notice whether (e.g.) your shoulders are tensing up?
Can AI notice whether you’ve changed your machine set up safely? Apropriately?
Could AI remember what machine settings you personally use for a particular exercise?
Could AI notice when you’re starting to fatigue and your form is failing?
How would AI decide that your form is great and you’re ready to progress?
How can AI be tailored for people’s different a) learning styles b) familiarity with Pilates principles c) Anatomy knowledge?

I’m looking forward to when some of these tools become available (&affordable) but can’t see an AI tool replacing good Pilates teachers anytime soon!

And if you read to the end of this post…. Thank you!
And is this something you’ve thought about?

The Puketoki Reserve near Whakamārama is such a beautiful place for a short forest walk. Take a picnic lunch and if you choose the 1hr “long loop” option and see this amazing tree with air roots, maybe you might do a few press ups too?
