If you had of told me 10 years ago that I’d be wanting to squeeze as many flowers into our veggie garden as possible I wouldn’t have believed it. I always thought of my efforts and garden space as being for edible endeavours only. Now I search out the most beautiful varieties that are easy to grow as I can and each spring wait in anticipation to see what will volunteer themselves from the season before. Excited to see these newcomers thrive this year after an average season last year. The big pinky ā€˜cafe au lait’ is as big as a dinner plate… aren’t you so in love with the colour!?

Isn’t Kumara foliage just so pretty? I love how it trails around the garden. I always miss some kumara, hidden in the garden at harvest but the upshot of this is that I have plenty of babies pop up the next spring to pull and use again for planting. I like to pop them in a jar of water to establish the roots. Then I lay them down on the garden bed creating a U shape with the stalk and roots before covering with soil. This year I have made a special bed for them next to fence in the hopes to train the kumara foliage over the fence, cause it’s super pretty and also to stop the runners popping down suckers in random places where I can’t find the kumara!

Family and food go together like peanut butter and chocolate (family being the nutty part
of the equation šŸ˜†). May you and your loved ones have a wonderful holiday season and celebrate over great food and a few cheeky drinks. Here’s some Christmas fare I prepared this month for a nutty and delicious family of students and their parents and teachers.

It’s that time when the tomato plants are brown and withering and often being pulled down by the weight of unripe fruit. I wait for as long as possible to pull my plants and the time has come. There are tons are delicious green tomato chutney recipes online. I used Emma Galloways one.

Woke up this morning on a mission! Started with a breakfast for champs of caramelised banana pancakes and then (finally) extended the garden bed. Made about 100 times easier with the Crafty Gatherer Forksta that my awesome friends make. I turned all the topsoil and then layered with grass cuttings and leaf matter. Hopefully will be ready to use within the next few weeks.

I love a good broth and my favourite by far is Mexican broth. Mexi broth was introduced to me by my teacher Satsang with Kumu to whom I am eternally grateful! The aromatic oregano, cumin, and coriander root, the brightness of lime, the smokey tones of charred onion and garlic along with the chilli kick are flavours to be adored. If I have time i'll make a vege stock from scratch but to be honest, most of the time I use a good quality stock or broth powder and it's still ah-mazing. With the addition of hominy (nixtamalized corn), fresh avocado and coriander leaves and a crunch of corn chips this dish is next level and one of my faves to serve at retreats.

Happy Matariki every one! So much gratitude to those who joined us to celebrate the winter solstice and the beginning of a new year as we move back into the light. Snuggling up around the fire with songs and stories of love, reverence and joy for the natural cycles and of connection, belonging and family. Celebrating in this way brings a whole new meaning to winter! Thank you Satsang with Kumu for leading us through yet another deeply wonderful Satsang.

If you have been thinking of making your own romesco, now is the time! I bought huge bags of beautiful tomatoes and Palermo red peppers from the market last week to make a big batch. You slowly roast them until caramelised, along with whole bulbs of garlic and almonds. Once cooked, i peel the skin off the tomatoes and peppers and then it all goes into the blender with S & P, a dash of vinegar like balsamic or red wine and blend. I also love to add a little sweet smoked paprika, some Italian herbs and a lot of lurve... truely decadent served with your fave pasta, .deli feta and a big pile of rocket, avo and a little lemon dressing to brighten... I just LOVE the harvest season SO much!!

After a most gorgeous day of bodywork yesterday, the kids and I wondered down to the front of the property to spy on our quail family where we discovered that our honey babe peaches were ready to eat straight off the tree! This mornings macadamia milk chia breakie situation was layered with home grown peaches and passion fruit. So much gratitude for the abundance we have here is our beautiful wee country.

A little bit in love with corn season, any one else? What’s your fave thing to do with it? These are wee egg-less corn fritters. Topped with guacamole and a gorgeous Brinjal Kasundi and you have a delicious morsel. We had this with a simple simple salad from Belk Road Farm and new potatoes, boiled and served with deli butter and fresh mint. Summer on a plate šŸŒæšŸ‘ŒšŸ½šŸ‘ŒšŸ½

Lots of shooting to seed happening in my garden right now, yours? What are you fave herbs to dry? Oregano and thyme are mine. I love having them in the pantry. Coriander is one of my most loved and used herbs and I always find it does way better when I throw seeds in the bed rather than seedlings. 🌱

It’s a happening thing! We have entered 2019 with much gratitude for the many lessons 2018 had to offer. There are lots of projects we have set our sights on for 2019, up here in the Waitao Valley. The first being a work studio for Nectar where I can practise bodywork out of the main house along with other things that I can’t wait to share with you when the time comes. Massive gratitude to my beautiful partner who has been lovingly toiling away, in the heat, creating this sacred space for me and my work. He has even done the drainage. I was in awe of his patience and perseverance as he worked out how to get the main line plumbed in while our son, keen as a bean, was eager to help. I honestly can't say I would have been as patient as he was. Can’t wait to share the final product with you in few weeks 🌸😁

Gosh, its been so long since I have given this page some energy. We moved to the hills in September which has been a beautiful and busy transition in itself, getting the hang of rural life. I have been on the front line which is where I love I to be, hands on, applying my understanding to the daily in's and out's of having a family and balancing that with work life, that being lots of bodywork and some cooking for retreats too. Added to that our internet connection up here is... challenging, which has (surprisingly) had its perks. Christmas is nearly here and I would love to let you all know that I have gift vouchers available. If you would like to treat your loved one/s to no ordinary bodywork experience then this could be for you. We live in a stunning location in the Papamoa Hills, handy to the Mount, Papamoa and Tauranga. The destination adds to the total experience of the bodywork. Please contact me with any questions.
