Is fake tan bad for your skin? ➡️

DHA-based fake tans are considered safe for most skin types, but they don’t guard against UV rays. In fact, in the first 24 hours, some formulas can actually make skin more sensitive to sun exposure.

Don’t let the bronze fool you. SPF is still essential. Stay sun safe and check your skin regularly.

David’s melanoma journey began with a stubborn scab on his scalp. It looked harmless, but turned out to be stage 4 melanoma. By 2021, the cancer had spread to his liver, lungs, and spine.

Thanks to immunotherapy, he is now in remission and sharing his story to raise awareness of melanoma’s silent nature and the power of early detection and ongoing research.

Skin cancer doesn’t always announce itself loudly. It’s often the persistent, unassuming changes that need closer attention.

Winter sunburn is real ☀️❄️➡️

Just because it’s cold, doesn’t mean you’re safe from UV. Snow, wind, and high altitudes can actually increase your risk and you might not even feel the damage happening.

Apply SPF 50+, protect exposed areas, and don’t forget: skin cancer doesn’t take a season off.

Stay protected, stay proactive!

How is skin cancer diagnosed? 👩‍⚕️🔬

Most skin cancers are picked up during a thorough skin check with the help of specialised equipment such as a dermoscope or specially designed camera. At MoleMap the process is also supported by Kāhu AI technology.. If something looks suspicious, a biopsy is taken and reviewed under a microscope to confirm diagnosis.

The goal? Early, accurate diagnosis and peace of mind for our patients.

A zit that wasn’t just a zit.

At 31, Emily thought it was just a stubborn zit on her forehead. But when it didn’t go away, she mentioned it to her dermatologist and found out it was basal cell carcinoma.

“He told me the mysterious spot on my forehead was actually basal cell carcinoma, the most common form of skin cancer.”

Emily’s story shows just how important it is to trust your instincts when it comes to your skin. It doesn't only affect older people. If something seems off, get it checked.

Winter sunburn is real and the slopes can be more dangerous than you think ➡️❄️🎿

Snow can reflect up to 90% of UV rays, and with every 1000 metres of altitude, UV radiation increases by around 10%. That means your skin is being hit from all angles, even on cold, cloudy days.

It started as a tiny red scratch that wouldn’t heal. 😟☀️

For Leah, a lifelong ocean lover, that small spot on her forehead turned out to be basal cell carcinoma, a type of skin cancer that needed urgent treatment.

She never thought it would happen to her. But when she returned for a follow-up, the spot had changed, and a biopsy confirmed it was more serious than it looked. Surgery followed, and thankfully, Leah is now recovering.

Remember to always wear sunscreen, check your skin, and get your skin checked regularly because skin cancer doesn’t always look scary. Sometimes it’s subtle, until it isn’t.

Why are so many young people still risking their health for a tan? ☀️📲

More than 1 in 4 Aussies aged 18 to 24 are getting sunburnt every month, with many influenced by social media trends that glorify tanning and downplay the risks of UV exposure.

Melanoma survivor Grace Passfield knows the consequences all too well. Diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma at just 33, she says early sun exposure likely played a part.

Sunburn now can mean skin cancer later, and it’s not worth it!

Always wear SPF 50+, cover up, reapply sunscreen, and get your skin checked.

No symptoms. No warning signs. Just a routine check that saved a life. 👁️

Carolyn Alkemade, a nurse and long-time MoleMap patient, was diagnosed with ocular melanoma, a rare form of melanoma that affects the eye, during a standard eye test. She had no pain, no vision issues, and no visible signs.

It was only thanks to a dilated eye exam that the tumour was detected. From there, Carolyn began treatment and started sharing her story to raise awareness of this lesser-known melanoma.

Her advice? Keep on top of your regular health checks and don’t dismiss something just because it feels small or invisible.

Early detection works, even when nothing feels wrong.

UVA vs UVB: What’s the difference? ☀️🧴

UVA rays are responsible for ageing and long-term skin damage. They pe*****te deeper into the skin, pass through clouds and glass, and are present all year round.

On the other hand, UVB rays are the ones that burn the skin. They affect the outer layer, are stronger in summer, and are the main cause of sunburn and skin redness.

☀️ Both can lead to skin cancer over time.
🧴 That’s why SPF 30 or above, broad spectrum sunscreen is a must.
🧢 Wear protective clothing, seek shade, and don’t forget your sunglasses.
📆 Check your skin regularly and make skin checks part of your routine.

Protect your skin today, your future self will thank you!
