Aotearoa’s second egg hatched earlier this week! 🤩 We are proud to support the Whakatane Kiwi Trust, and even prouder to sponsor Aotearoa, our kiwi dad.

The little chick is doing well, and so is the first chick that hatched a couple of weeks ago. 💪

Meet Aotearoa, he’s part of our EastPack family. He is a kiwi dad that we sponsor, and we are excited to share that he is currently incubating eggs in his nest.

Kiwi eggs take 70-80 days to incubate before they hatch, and in the North Island brown kiwi species the incubation is solely done by the father. Kiwi normally roam for around 10 hours each night feeding, but Aotearoa only leaves for 2-3 hours while he is nesting - unsurprisingly, he will lose a bit of weight over this time!

Check out his nest cam video, it shows him carefully covering up the entrance to his nest as he leaves for a quick feed.

We are proud to support the Whakatane Kiwi Trust Whakatane Kiwi Trust and the great work they do.

INTRODUCING OUR KIWI CHICK BROWNY!

As part of our partnership with Whakatane Kiwi Trust we have been able to adopt and name our very own Kiwi chick!

When our chick was born in March, each of our sites chose a name and our CEO Hamish Simson randomly drew the winner out of the hat. We are very excited to introduce you to Browny!

Browny’s name was chosen because they are a North Island Brown Kiwi. At the last health check they were lovely and alert, weighed in at 950g and had a bill length of 5.7cm. We have heard they have a beautiful shallow burrow.

We don’t know if Browny is male or female yet, but the team at Whakatane Kiwi Trust relieved them of a couple of feathers for DNA gender analyses so we will find out soon!

Watch this space for more updates on Browny!
