Shoulder = freedom
Hip = foundation
🤯
TRUTH: Your shoulder is designed to reach and explore the world (freedom), and your hip is designed to hold you up (foundation) and move you forward.
They are both "ball and socket" joints but we because we stand on two legs we use them differently.
Here is a little breakdown that might be helpful.
Shoulder
-------------------
Think: Golf ball on a tee
Very shallow socket
Built for mobility
Can move in almost every direction (lift, rotate, reach, throw)
Relies heavily on muscles (like the rotator cuff) for stability
More prone to instability and irritation
Hip
-------------------
Think: Ball sitting deep inside a bowl
Very deep socket
Built for stability
Supports body weight while standing and walking
Surrounded by thick ligaments and strong muscles (like the glutes)
Less likely to dislocate than the shoulder
