During a public presentation on Wednesday afternoon, members of our group shared the stories of eight fallen soldiers from World War I whose names are inscribed on the cenotaph at Anzac Green, Te Awamutu. Among these accounts was the story of brothers Noel and Robert Gibson, highlighting their experiences from enlistment through to their deaths in the field. Two additional Gibson brothers also served in World War I—one was invalided out and passed away in 1929 from shell shock, while the other survived longer but struggled with lasting health issues from their injuries.

To conclude our year the group held a supper evening in conjunction with our usual December Meeting The 14 attendees spent a pleasant evening reminiscing on Christmas past and how we celebrated it growing up. To those of us of a certain age there was a similarity, in turkeys from the farm, new potatoes, peas all from the family garden. Of course not to be forgotten was the Christmas steamed fruit pudding along with the three and six pence coins.
Along with this Sandra shared on screen the objectives we had hoped to meet in 2025, and asked each one did we make our targets. Some did and congratulations to you and for the rest of us hopefully 2026 will see us achieve more.
