Notes from the blog of a member away on his USA and Scotland 2025 trip. What a whirlwind fortnight it has been. My American adventure kicked off in Denver, with family exactly what I needed. Long walks on those incredible trails, the crisp Rocky Mountain air, the wildlife sightings were a genuine highlight. it’s a world away from home. And the fossils! Getting to explore that ancient history, touching something millions of years old magic
From the natural wonders of Colorado, it was a complete change of pace to New York State. More wonderful family visits, Then, the iconic NYC experiences: standing on Ellis Island, feeling the weight of history and the countless stories of arrival; gazing up at the Statue of Liberty, a symbol of so much. And last night, "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" on Broadway was absolutely magical. I'm already looking forward to what Scotland has in store!

My Royal Connection
While this meeting celebrates all things royal, if you’ve never actually had a brush with royalty then maybe you have visited a palace or two, or have ancestors with the surname King, McQueen, Duke, Prince, Lord or Earl. Have you ever thought about how they got that surname? If it is a story worth telling, then this is the time to tell it See you all with your stories Tuesday Evening

A visit to Thames Museum by a number of our club's members was fantastic. A local has made miniature models of old buildings and we loved the map of the area on the floor. The Treasury archive and family history centre for Coromandel Heritage Trust is housed in the old library building, which was paid for by the American philanthropist - Carnegie, who grew up poor and through reading friends' books was educated and wanted to share worldwide the benefits of reading.
