It was our B2B final session yesterday ...wow 6 weeks goes by quickly when you're having fun! We rounded off our learning with a focus on mental/emotional health, covering various modes of self help such as affirmations, visualization, EFT, Aromatherapy and Homoeopathy. We all prepared Lentil Bolognese with Zucchini Noodles for our meal & Healthy Granola with fried bananas and vanilla yogurt for a dessert because the students wanted to learn how to make healthy granola.

We want to thank The Trust Community Foundation, Onehunga Community Centre and Onehunga High School Adult and Community Education for sponsoring Term:1 2026 wellness programme. Our next 6-week programme is set for 7 Oct thru 11 Nov 2026. If you are interested in joining please email to register: dee@shilohcentre.org.nz.

At Onehunga Community Centre during our Back 2 Basics Wellness Programme Week 5, Shirley Tuffery focused on Acid/Alkali balance and various methods of detoxing the body. As always there was much robust discussion and sharing of personal health stories.

We prepared Chicken Vegetable Detox Soup with a Crispy Asian Salad and Red Lentil Flatbread for a very fulfilling lunch for all.

During our Back 2 Basics 4th week class at Onehunga Community Centre , naturopath Shirley Tuffery talked about chronic disease and digging deeper into the cause and effects of inflammation and how it creates the climate for chronic diseases. Anti inflammatory self help solutions were discussed, including foods to eat or avoid, supplements to take and lifestyle choices to change or adopt.

During our hands-on cooking class, students learned how to make Open-Face Tofu sandwiches with cauliflower mash, spinach salad and baked pears which was a great combination of good food made easy to support our bodies to reduce inflammation.

Saturday 14 March Gilly Stewart and Dee Petit taught students how to preserved Onion Jam at Onehunga Community Centre. Another successful fun day at the hub learning how to be self-sustainable and use abundant produce of the season for the winter months ahead!

Week 2 of B2B saw us welcoming 3 new eager students making for a great atmosphere of learning and discussions. Our health focus today was on the major organs of the body, their functions, common diseases and ways to naturally nourish them in order to minimize potential problems. Also covered was the digestive system and the importance of maintaining good gut health.

Supporting the emphasis on prebiotic and fermented foods, home made sauerkraut was on the menu for lunch, combined with organic sausages, oven baked potatoes in ghee and a delicious carrot and beetroot salad with a sweet orange dressing, nuts and seeds with dried cranberries. Dessert of tofu and blueberry cream drizzled over fresh pineapple and apple was a group favourite to finish off. As usual, the consensus was that these new tastes merited trying these recipes on the family at home.

And away we go again with the first of 6 modules of our popular Back 2 Basics wellness programme at Onehunga Community Centre. Our focus is on understanding how to optimize our health and wellbeing through education and self responsibility, along with learning to prepare cost effective and healthy meals. Students learned how to make homemade beef stock which we used to make beef boil-up. We also made roast garlic bean dip with buckwheat flatbread topped with salad greens. It's always a pleasure to welcome fresh faces and eager minds to share the weeks ahead.

Big THANK YOU to our sponsors The Trust Community Foundation, Onehunga Community Centre and Onehunga High School Adult Education for your support in making this programme free of charge to the community.

We have a few spaces waiting to be filled with people who are wanting to learn more about holistic wellness and how to prepare healthy meals with seasonal veges and fruit on a budget.

Testimony: The 6-week Back to Wellness Programme ended today, and I’ve benefited greatly. I learned to make healthy, tasty home-cooked meals with simple ingredients—healthy eating doesn’t have to be complicated. Shirley’s theoretical lessons and Dee’s hands-on cooking demos were incredibly practical. Their insights will guide me and my family’s healthy lifestyle. Grateful for the programme and the teachers’ guidance. I’ll apply what I’ve learned and stick to healthy eating. - Susan

Our first Preserving the Past Masterclass at Onehunga Community Centre on Valentine's Day was a blast (as one student stated). Dee Petit and Gilly Stewart taught students how to make Cauliflower Piccalilli which was a huge success. Thank you Onehunga Community Centre for our support as always as well as the B***e Brothers for providing the cauliflower and onions for the preserves.

The Heart of the Community

A team of skilled professionals from educationalists, accountant, business managers to movie producers are banding together to provide a new South Auckland based Creative Life Centre, all they need now is funding for land and buildings or an existing building that they could call Shiloh and begin the work that they have set out to do.

Chairperson of Shiloh Creative Life Centre Charitable Trust, Dee Petit, says it is amazing how enthusiasm amongst our friends, families and contacts has spread in support of a community-based centre. Dee has held this vision for the past 10 years and on March 23, 2018 the charitable trust was established. The Shiloh Creative Life Centre Charitable Trust comprises of a strong and dedicated team of trustees and an advisory board with immense knowledge and expertise in the areas of medicine, teaching, accounting, management, art, creativity & leadership. On January 30, 2019 Shiloh received legal charitable status.

Shiloh’s foundation is built on four pillars:

EDUCATION. CREATIVITY. COMMUNITY. WELL-BEING
