The Ôsôji Ritual continues - internally, energetically, in the home space, online. The final shedding of the year of the Snake. How are you progressing in creating space for new beginnings……Embracing the process of growth and transformation.

For me the Ôsôji Ritual its a compass point that pulls me back into the present, in what ever im coming from or going too.
It brings awareness to my senses, even if it’s for a micro moment.

2025, what a year you have been! If you asked me on January 1, 2025 where l’d be in December of 2025, it looks very different from what I anticipated. It has been 15 years that I have practicing as a Yoga Teacher. 7 years of running a home based studio. I have been blessed with incredible teachers, mentors and collaborators. I have LOVED working with women specifically in our community in pre- and postnatal care, and to see the incredible impact this work has had brings me so much joy.
Then our family took a leap of faith in October and moved to the Hibiscus Coast. We closed the YR home studio, said goodbyes to an amazing tight community and were instantly embraced as Coasties. I’ve learned to become a fire keeper with , we worked just as much and hard, but still had more time as a family. And admits all of this we are baking some epic new plans of expansion for the sauna fam in 2026. We thank you for your love, encouragement and support.

Thank you for choosing to support our heart centered businesses and trusting us to support you and your loved ones! Word of mouth referrals mean so much, and are such a special reminder of the village and community we have created together.

As we step through the December portal, I wanted to share a little practical note for those wishing to gift Koshi Chimes, Sanctum Cacao or Herbal Tea blends this Christmas.

If you’d rather collect in person, you’re so welcome to pop by in Orewa by tonight as well.

And if you’re based in Cambridge or Tauranga, I’ll be there between 20–28 December and would love to bring any orders along with me. Just reach out.

Ôsôji // Feeling the sudden urge again for this Japanese Ritual. Unbeknownst to me I had already been in the energy of this ritual (yesterday starting by randomly washing down the bathroom walls from ceiling to floor)

I, as my Christmas gift to myself....book this time before the school holidays kick to deep clean & cleanse our home, and tidy the garden.

In Japan, houses are cleaned and tidied up from top to bottom at the end of December, to symbolically clean the “impurities” accumulated during the year and to start the new year “purified”...

It is an ancient ritual to clean up to welcome the God of the New Year. A custom called susuharai, which means “removing the soot”.

From symbols to beliefs, this tradition survived and is still practiced... (my windows, soot central)
These tasks, although dreaded, are often accomplished with fervor. By cleaning everything strangely from top to bottom, the Japanese have the impression of getting rid, symbolically, of everything that had cluttered or soiled their lives during the year that is ending. And it is with a light heart that they celebrate the arrival of the new year, in shiny accommodation.

As we are wrapping up our sauna openings days this year, these past two days I’ve had SUCH a yearning to regroup & deep clean the home nest.

Feels right & good!

Music is an absolute non-negotiable, which definitely heightens the joy factor ✨

And there’s no pressure to get it done by the 31st.. as closer to Chinese New Year date has always felt more aligned to the ‘new year’ for me.

A last gathering before we tumble into the delicious chaos of December - one more moment of shared practice, breaths, heat, ocean dips, and community before we wind down for the year.

The Yoga & Sauna combo tickets are sold out, but plenty of space if you just wanted to pop down for the yoga! 8.30-9.30am $15, byo yoga mat.

For our last session of this year, there is the option to pre-book a cup of high-grade Sanctum Ceremonial Cacao. Lovingly prepared and served after your yoga practice or sauna combo. (orders close Saturday evening).

It’s so lovely to see the bookings for this Sunday’s last session of the year rolling in! The feedback lately from many of you has been about reducing stress and slowing down. My goodness, we all have this in common. The fullness of life can build up this time of year. The practice of Yoga is a supportive way of jumping out of chatty minds and into the body. For me this is feeling alive in my limbs, my heart beat, my breath, even into the tiny little spaces between the knuckles. This focus gets us out of our heads, a moment where the body and breath is under observation instead of the outer world.

Mindfulness.
Connection to breath.
Reawakening our core.
Self care for your soul.

Yoga Roots by Marjolein is a peaceful and nurturing home studio in Torbay, Auckland. Weekly classes: beginners yoga, pregnancy yoga, restorative yoga, transformational yoga and meditation. Marjolein is originally from the Netherlands and now based with her family in Aotearoa. She began her yoga journey in The Netherlands with a classical hatha training and continued following trainings and teaching classes as she began to travel. She has completed 800hr of training in classical hatha yoga, pregnancy yoga, restorative yoga, yoga nidra and transformational yoga. Marjolein is a sincere yoga instructor, dedicated mum, travel addict, foodie and nature lover at heart... She is passionate about inspiring others to improve their wellbeing and live a joyful life.
