"When clients turn to therapy for help in dealing with one of the biggest existential crises humanity has faced, they may be failed, missed, let down or diverted. Therapists' response to this potentially overwhelming and engulfing reality has been inadequate, even damaging."
So begins the challenge of ‘Being a Therapist in a Time of Climate Breakdown’, a new book from the Climate Psychology Alliance (Judith Anderson, Tree Staunton, Jenny O'Gorman & Caroline Hickman (eds), 2024, p4).
Responding to this challenge requires those of us in ‘hauora’ professions in Aotearoa to work together to develop climate-aware practice. Join me in forming a climate mental health network. We are planning a first national inter-disciplinary zoom call for next month. Email me to be part of it: silvia.purdie@gmail.com
