🤔 Cold or Flu?

You may be familiar with the discomfort they bring, but do you know the difference...

What causes a cold and a flu?

🤧 A cold is caused by a virus called the rhinovirus - named after the nose because it mainly affects your upper respiratory tract. It’s not about the cold weather itself, but more about germs spreading when people are close together.

🦠 Flu, on the other hand, is caused by the influenza virus. It spreads easily through droplets when someone coughs, sneezes, or talks nearby. Symptoms can be more severe and sudden.

How to relieve cold and flu symptoms:

😴 Rest up and drink plenty of fluids—your body needs time to heal.

💧Use a humidifier to keep the air moist, which can soothe your nose and throat.

🍵 Enjoy warm, soothing drinks and soups to calm a scratchy throat.

🖐️ Wash your hands regularly, or use hand sanitizer when washing isn’t possible, to stop germs spreading.

Winter can leave us low in vitamin C – especially when we're run down or under stress. Vitamin C plays a key role in supporting your immune system, helping your body cope and recover.

Load up on vitamin C-rich foods like citrus fruits, kiwifruit, capsicum, berries, and even fermented veggies like sauerkraut and kimchi (if your tummy agrees!). Just remember – cooking can reduce vitamin C levels in food.
