Ever wondered why we talk so much about sun safety?
New Zealand has some of the strongest UV in the world, which means sunburn happens faster, and the long-term risks are higher.

Our UV doesn’t muck around!

Before you head outside today, remember the basics:
➡️ Slip, slop, slap, wrap, protect your skin!
Slip on a shirt
Slop on SPF30+
Slap on a hat
Wrap on your sunnies

A few seconds of protection = hours of safer fun in the sun.
Look after your skin, look after your hauora.

Watch our wonderful pakeke at our Kaumatua Olympics, a day filled with laughter, movement, pride, and connection.

This video is also a reminder.
As the year winds down and the holidays approach, it’s a good time to reach out to our kaumatua and pakeke.
Check in. Have a korero. Make sure they’re safe, healthy, and feeling loved.

Moments like these remind us that well-being is about more than one day; it’s about staying connected, especially at this time of year.

To our kaumatua: you are treasured.
To our whanau: thank you for walking alongside them.

Feeling a bit panicked? Running out of days? Feeling anxious about the 25th? Can't wait till it gets here? Can't wait till it's over? - We know the holiday season looks different for every whanau

Some of us celebrate Christmas, some don't. What matters most is taking care of ourselves and each other.

If you are feeling stressed about Kirihimete, share with whanau, keep kai simple and be gentle on yourself; make the focus about spending time with the people who fill your wairua.

If you have whanau organising Christmas, ask them if they are doing ok and if they need help.

Every day, choose what supports your hauora and honours your values.

As the year begins to slow and the Christmas break approaches, we want to take a moment to acknowledge our people.

Team Noho was a chance to pause, reconnect, learn together, and reflect on the mahi we do every day for our whanau and communities. It reminded us that our strength lies in our people in the way we show up for one another, share knowledge, and stay grounded in our kaupapa.

To our kaimahi, thank you for your commitment, your care, and the energy you bring to this mahi. As we head into the end of the year, we hope you’re able to rest, spend time with those who matter most, and return refreshed.

Nga mihi nui to our kaimahi - we truly appreciate all that you do.

School might be out, routines might change, and coming up to christmas might feel busy but checking in doesn’t stop just because the holidays start.

Heh Tane! whether you’re a dad, koro, uncle, mentor, or big brother, your presence makes a difference to our rangatahi.

Take a moment to korero, to listen, or simply sit with someone who might need it.

He toa taumata rau: strength wears many faces.
Sometimes the strongest thing we can do is reach out.

Younger people can burn, but its important to remember that older adults tend to burn faster, dry out faster, and take longer to recover. Plus, they often take longer to recover, so they really need to prioritise sun protection.

As we age, our bodies change. For our pakeke, this means thinner skin, faster dehydration, and sometimes increased sensitivity to sunlight due to medications. That's why having good Sun Smart habits is crucial for them.

Our pakeke are a treasure, so let’s ensure we look after them in the heat, just as they have cared for us throughout the years.

Summer BBQs don’t need to be heavy to be delicious!
Small swaps can make your kai lighter, fresher, and better for your hauora.
Kumara salad = roasted kumara + fresh veggies + a light dressing.
Swap creamy dressings for vinaigrettes.

Lemon + Olive Oil Dressing
Ingredients:
3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1 tbsp fresh lemon juice (more if you like it tangy)
½ tsp honey or maple syrup (optional, for balance)
1 small garlic clove, finely crushed (optional)
A pinch of salt
A pinch of black pepper
Method:
Add all ingredients to a small jar or cup.
Shake or whisk until combined.
Taste and adjust:
Add more lemon for extra zing
Add more honey if you want it sweeter
Add more salt/pepper for balance
Drizzle over warm or cold kumarau salad.
Olive oil = heart-healthy fats. It helps the body absorb nutrients, including water-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K.
If you want it even lighter:
Use 1½ tbsp olive oil + 1½ tbsp water
Add extra lemon for flavour
Add fresh herbs
Add ½ tsp Dijon mustard to emulsify
Use no honey

Healthy kai doesn’t mean missing out; it just means choosing options that help you feel good.

Summer can be full-on with different routines, busy whanau, loud gatherings, extra pressure at work, or long, quiet days.
But one thing doesn't change: Checking in doesn't stop for summer.

He toa taumata rau, strength wears many faces.
Strength isn't just being tough.
It's asking how someone's really doing.
It's reaching out.
It's taking a moment to breathe.
It's choosing to talk rather than carry everything alone.

Check in with your bros, your uncles, your koro, your mates and check in with yourself too.
