Recovering from injury can sometimes be a slow and challenging process, both mentally and physically.
We know it can be tempting to dive right back in, but here are some important things to consider first
1. Have you completed your rehab?
Rehabilitation exercises prescribed by physios serve specific purposes with the intent to help your body recover as soon as possible. The more you follow your rehab plan, the easier your return to sport is likely to be. Often, you will slowly or partially return to your sport or activity before you have fully completed your rehab; your physio will help guide this process.
2. Are you actually ready?
Preparedness for sport isn’t just about feeling good when standing or walking. It’s also about ensuring that your body can do the things that are required in your particular sport or activity. For example, some sports require particular demands, such as jumping, tackling, changing directions, and power, etc. Your physio will prescribe exercises specific to the demands of your activity to help you return back to what you love doing.
3. Are you prepared to listen to your body?
As you return to your sport, take the time to listen to your body before, during, and afterward. If you are feeling any discomfort, apprehension, or pain, and/or have any questions about your injury, ensure you let your physio know.
