This last month I’ve had a lesson In patience while I’ve been a patient. Can’t say I’ve enjoyed being on the other side of a neck strain but can report that I’m finally out the other side of my pain and numbness.

The experience has reaffirmed a few pointers:
1. Be guided by a great physio. Thank you Sandra.
2. Move what you can. My legs got some great work outs.
3. You can create an optimal environment for healing but you can’t rush the nature of the time line of healing. I had to tell my nerves that. Sensation is always the last thing to come back
4. BREATHE. Things will get better.
5. Gradually return to loads. Just because you feel better you need to respect activity loads and speeds.

Thankfully I am back to near full capacity. A little bit longer before the golf course and mountain bike but full of optimism for the summer. Yey!!!

So if you wondered where I disappeared to for three weeeks we are just back from the most incredible holiday to Japan. I haven’t skied for over ten years but the pre holiday training paid off and the old legs coped pretty well. Loved the culture, the food, the people and time spent with my amazing travel buddy husband. Back to reality now with many special memories.

Have been loving the results Ive been getting with my new knowledge of western acupuncture . Such a good evidence based addition to Physiotherapy. I have been using it for a while and the two additional courses I have attended this year have really broadened my skill set.

I’ve been meaning to post this for a while. Are you overwhelmed by exercise. Part of my job is to establish your most important exercise or movement correction. If you snack on it through the day you will be amazed at your gains. Then we can build on your exercise demand.

I don’t want to bore you with a long post but have had recent success with an electrician. He works long physical hours and also is a busy dad to a preschooler. Chronic back pain has really affected quality of life and time demands made a list of exercises non achievable.

Over time we have broken down the exercise to what was the most important. He tasks associates them to remind him when to exercise. For example. Standing squats while brushing teeth progresses into lunges over time. He now feels ready to run again and has far less frequency of back pain.

Don’t feel overwhelmed. Snack on exercise. SOME IS BETTER THAN NONE.
