Great advice

Feeling like a different person at different times of the month? You’re not alone 💙

It’s completely normal for energy, mood, focus and patience to fluctuate as we move through our menstrual cycle. Understanding each phase can help us look after ourselves and give ourselves a bit of grace when we’re not feeling 100%.

🩸 Menstrual phase

Low hormones, low energy, and a strong commitment to rest. This is your body’s reset phase.

The perfect time for rest and gentle movement (like stretching or walking). Blankets, naps, fewer plans, and zero guilt recommended.

🌱 Follicular phase

Energy and motivation start to creep back in. You might feel clearer, more optimistic, and ready to try new things.

This can be a good time to plan ahead, start projects, reconnect socially, and gradually increase activity or exercise if that feels right.

✨ Ovulation

Confidence and social energy often peak.

Great for catch‑ups, teamwork, presentations, and bigger commitments. Just remember to keep eating, resting, and drinking water - even when you feel unstoppable!

🔥 Luteal phase

Energy slowly dips, emotions can feel closer to the surface, and everyone might become slightly annoying for no clear reason.

A good time to keep steady routines, realistic expectations, and firm boundaries. Extra rest and kindness (especially towards yourself) go a long way here.

💛 Working with your body, not against it, can make the month feel a little gentler.

Whooping cough spreads easily and can cause bad coughing making it very hard for pēpi/babies to breathe. Especially newborn pēpi who haven’t had their 6-week immunisations.

If you’re hapū/pregnant, a free whooping cough vaccine from 13 weeks can protect your pēpi by passing on immunity until they’re old enough for their own immunisations at 6 weeks. Boosters at 4 and 11 years help keep protection strong. Protect your taonga.

Book an immunisation today with your usual doctor, Hauora Māori or Pacific health provider, pharmacy, or online at bookmyvaccine.nz

Ahead of Cyclone Vaianu arriving tomorrow, here are some health tips in case of power outages or if you or your whānau need to leave quickly:

✅ Ensure phones, medical devices, and their batteries are charged.

✅ If anyone in your home takes medication, now's a good time to pop them into your GRAB/GO bag along with bottled water. If medication is kept in the fridge, check the lids are firmly on and they're in a handy place to grab and go.

✅ If you are medically dependent on electricity, please ensure your power company knows about your needs.

✅ If you are medically vulnerable and in areas at risk of flooding or rural locations, please check if family or friends can contact you for check-ins or stay with them instead.

For free, 24/7 health advice, call Healthline 0800 611 116. They have a photo/video sharing service so you can fully explain a health condition.

If you’re based rurally, you can call 0800 KA ORA (0800 252 672) 24/7 to speak with a nurse or doctor.

Follow NZ Civil Defence, MetService New Zealand and local councils for regular updates.

Take care, e te whānau. 💙

🌀 STAY SAFE & PROTECT YOUR TECH 🌀

With the cyclone approaching, please take care of yourselves and your gear! To help prevent hardware damage from power surges or outages, here are a few quick tips from the team at RD3 Tech:

🔌 Unplug Non-Essentials: The only 100% way to protect your gear from a massive surge is to physically unplug it from the wall. This includes computers, monitors, and especially your internet routers!

🛡️ Check Your Surge Protectors: If you keep devices plugged in, make sure you're using a dedicated surge protector (not just a standard power strip).

👉 Pro-Tip: Check the "Protected" LED light on the unit. If that light is out or red, your protector has "sacrificed" itself during a past surge and is no longer protecting your gear!

🔋 Charge Up Now: Get your phones, laptops, and power banks to 100% while the grid is stable.

📱 Power Save Mode: Switch your mobile devices to ‘Low Power Mode’ early, to stretch your battery life as long as possible.

These small steps can make a big difference in safeguarding your equipment. Stay safe, stay dry, and look after each other! 🤝

All the best,
RD3 Tech

It’s feels like a bit of a waiting game now 😮‍💨 With severe weather forecast tomorrow as Cyclone Vaianu moves towards New Zealand. If you haven’t already take some time today to check your kit and make a plan.

🚨Check your emergency kit:
Enough water and food for three days
Torch, radio and spare batteries
Fully charged phone and power bank
First aid and any essential medications
Warm clothes and blankets
Copies of important documents

🎒Have a grab bag ready:
In case you need to leave quickly, pack a bag with:
Clothing, snacks, water
Phone charger and power bank
Medications and personal items
ID and important documents

🏚️Think about your household:
Make a plan for where you would go if you needed to evacuate
Bring pets inside and make sure you have food for them too
Check in with family, friends and neighbours
Preparing doesn’t mean the worst will happen, it can just mean being ready.

We’re continue to monitor the situation and share update as needed

Ever feel like your brain is a bit squishy after too much scrolling? 🧠📱

That overstimulated, fuzzy, everything’s loud feeling can be a sign you need a break from being online.

Our brains need downtime. Stepping away from screens, getting outside, moving your body, or doing something creative can help calm your nervous system and protect your mental wellbeing. 💙

Youth in the Regions: Keeping Talent in Rural New Zealand

How do we inspire young people to build their futures in rural New Zealand? Barbara Kuriger will lead a conversation on one of the most urgent challenges facing our regions: ensuring that talent is nurtured, supported, and retained outside the main centres.

From opportunities in education and training, to pathways in agriculture, technology, and regional enterprise, rural communities have unique strengths to offer. Yet attracting and keeping young people requires fresh ideas, strong leadership, and a commitment to building vibrant, sustainable communities.

A reminder to join us as we explore practical solutions, share success stories, and discuss what it will take to make rural life a place where the next generation can thrive.
