Youth in the Regions: Keeping Talent in Rural New Zealand

How do we inspire young people to build their futures in rural New Zealand? Barbara Kuriger will lead a conversation on one of the most urgent challenges facing our regions: ensuring that talent is nurtured, supported, and retained outside the main centres.

From opportunities in education and training, to pathways in agriculture, technology, and regional enterprise, rural communities have unique strengths to offer. Yet attracting and keeping young people requires fresh ideas, strong leadership, and a commitment to building vibrant, sustainable communities.

A reminder to join us as we explore practical solutions, share success stories, and discuss what it will take to make rural life a place where the next generation can thrive.

📅 Date: Wednesday 18 February

Supporting a new parent isn’t just kind - it supports their health and wellbeing.

Practical help like meals, laundry, caring for older tamariki, or holding pēpi so parents can rest can reduce stress and help families recover and adjust in the early weeks.

If you’re a friend or whānau member, choosing one small, practical thing can make a real difference. 💛

🌟 Exciting News for Our Communities! 🌟
We are pleased to announce that the Nurse Prescriber Clinic will be reopening in Urenui — and we’re excited to share that this service is now also available in Mōkau!
This new clinic is being introduced to improve access to healthcare and provide more timely support for whānau across our region.
What Can a Nurse Prescriber Do?
A Nurse Prescriber is a specially trained registered nurse who can:
✔️ Assess and diagnose a range of common health conditions
✔️ Prescribe medications within their scope
✔️ Order and interpret certain tests
✔️ Manage long‑term health conditions
✔️ Provide ongoing health advice, education, and preventive care

Our District & Palliative Nursing Service remains the same — nothing is changing to your current care or support.
The Nurse Prescriber Clinic is an additional service designed to give our community more options and faster access to health services closer to home.
Ngā mihi - Urenui & Mōkau Rural Healthcare team
