Jeannie completed her 200 hour Power Yoga teacher training with Power Living Australia. Power Yoga is based on the teachings of Beryl Bender Birch, who developed the style in the 1980s for the New York Road Runners Club. She has also studied with Yin Yoga expert Joe Barnett, who is primary teaching assistant to the founder of the style Paul Grilley. She and her husband (and dog) moved to Waikanae
in May 2016 while their house was being built in Peka Peka. Jeannie was an accountant for more than 25 years. She found the challenges of a blended family, managing her own business and looking after her clients, were sometimes overwhelming. Stress can take a real toll on our wellbeing and can result in negative physical reactions and emotional turmoil. Through the practice of yoga, Jeannie was able to address the stresses in her life in a calm and positive way. Physical activity releases endorphins (good chemicals), making us happier. Focusing on our breath helps us stay calm in times of tension by letting our body know that everything is okay, reducing the fight or flight reaction we sometimes have. Through yoga, Jeannie found a real sense of peace. And, of course, she became fitter and more flexible. Sometimes, we get so much out of the practice of yoga ‘off the mat’, that the physical benefits we get from our time ‘on the mat’ are just an added bonus. The changes were so significant and positive for Jeannie that she decided she must share the practice. So, she trained as a yoga teacher . . . and Our Yoga began. Yoga is Jeannie’s passion, and she feels very fortunate to be able to share it with her community on the Kāpiti Coast. Call Jeannie on 027 254 8973 if you’d like to find out more. If it goes to answerphone, just leave a message because she’s probably walking her dog Sascha on Peka Peka Beach. Otherwise, contact her via the Our Yoga website https://www.ouryoga.co.nz/contact-us.
