Here are a couple of photos of a recent weekly baking session. One of our residents used to be a baker, so for her this was second nature.

We loved welcoming the pet therapy organisation, Canine Friends, into our home. Elizabeth brought her beautiful dog named Huripari to visit our residents. Huripari is the Maori word for hurricane and he is a labsky; a mixture of labrador and husky. He has a playful side to his personality and his visit spread joy to our residents. He and Elizabeth will visit us fortnightly and we can't wait for next time!

Our Valentine’s Day celebration was a fabulous occasion! Residents were treated to a concert by Alan who belted out some timeless romantic classics. The room was filled with sweet nostalgia as he serenaded us with tunes like “Unchained Melody” and “Can’t Help Falling in Love.” And the best part? Our residents were singing and tapping along!

We enjoyed a lovely trip to the market in the weekend. For one of our residents, this was her first visit there since coming to our home. We asked her how she was doing and if she was enjoying the market, and she responded with a huge wide smile. She grinned from ear to ear while we passed by the stalls.

We have been enjoying all that summer has to offer; going on van trips to re-connect with nature, enjoying a stroll, soaking up the sun and arranging flowers which were picked from our garden. Good times!

Christmas is a little different for each of us. It can be a time of joy and celebration – but it can also be a season that feels more heavy, quiet or complicated. However this Christmas finds you, we send warmth your way. May you experience moments of peace and comfort. Wishing you a very happy Christmas.

We recently marked National Awareness Week for Diversional and Recreational Therapy. This year’s theme was He Kākano, He Tipu – From Seed to Growth.

"Growth happens through care, nurture, and connection. Just as a seed needs soil, water, and sunlight, people flourish when they are supported with creativity, empathy, and companionship.” (Society of Diversional and Recreational Therapists)

Our Activities Team plans activities to support our residents’ physical, social and emotional needs. In our home, this can sometimes involve spending time and connecting one on one with a resident, and allowing their personality, mood, and interests to guide the time together. Our activities team’s vital work helps our residents to feel good. It enhances their quality of life by building connection, bringing a sense of belonging and purpose, and helping to keep minds and bodies active.
