It’s the quiet moments in the afterglow of a hard day’s work that volunteer Mick Ingram enjoys the most.

Please meet Clare - our wonderful and very kind volunteer GP. Clare is one of a roster of volunteer GPs that donate their time to the Mission one evening a week and help out those staying in our emergency shelters. Our clients come in for a range of issues and they are very grateful to take advantage of a service that perhaps they have not accessed for a long time due to financial barriers or not being attached the any local GPs. Looking after our client's mental and physical health stands them in better stead to face the other challenges they may have, and that stability alone can be profoundly impactful.
We are extremely appreciative of the time and energy our volunteers donate! 🥰🩺💕

Our new City Mission Fundraising and Marketing Manager Andy Doherty has swapped working for King Charles III to working for vulnerable families in Christchurch.
Andy was working as a Philanthropy Manager for the King’s Prince’s Trust charity in the UK when he heard of the City Mission role, and immediately decided that’s what he wanted to do, fast tracking his return to Christchurch.
After a life in the commercial and business world, he found charity work gave him the most satisfaction in using his skills. Being able to do that back home in Christchurch with a major charity such as the Christchurch City Mission was a perfect next step.
We help tens of thousands of people every year through a wide range of services that include a foodbank, emergency accommodation shelters for men and women, a transitional housing facility, learning and development programmes, a residential detox unit and home detox, a social worker hub, addiction counsellors, budget advisers, a community development network and a medical unit.
Doherty was born and raised in Christchurch. He went to University of Canterbury, and his significant past roles here include Chief Executive of Southern Hospitality and the Catholic Diocese General Manager.
He has also worked extensively overseas, but he says now is time for him to make a big difference in his home city.
“I am genuinely excited to be back in Christchurch and working for the City Mission. I want to continue my career in the charity sector - and who else has the most impact in the city I was born in and grew up in?
“I want to add value wherever I work, and I look forward to working with Corinne Haines and the team at the City Mission, assisting them with the work they do in our community.
“Now more than ever our community needs support – our support – and I am committed to assisting those most in need. The Christchurch City Mission is an integral part of our society, and I will do my best to assist the Mission with its goals of helping those in need.”
City Missioner Corinne Haines said Andy Doherty is a great person to lead the Mission’s Fundraising and Marketing team as the Mission expands and enhances its services to meet the rising need.
“Andy brings a wealth of experience but even more importantly he brings enthusiasm, energy and a deep belief in our work.”
