The risk of measles being brought into Aotearoa by travellers is currently very high. Measles is serious and very contagious.

The best protection is immunisation, and the MMR vaccine is FREE in NZ.

It’s especially recommended for:

30/06/2025

Bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers in NZ. Also known as colorectal or colon cancer, it affects the colon (large bowel) and re**um, and men are more affected than women.

⚠ It can develop without any warning signs, but 90% of cases can be treated successfully if caught early.

Watch for symptoms like:
- Bleeding from the bottom
- Ongoing changes in bowel habits
- Persistent tummy pain
- Unexplained weight loss
- Feeling unusually tired or weak

Anyone with symptoms, no matter their age, should see a GP. You may also need earlier or more regular testing if you have a family history of bowel cancer.

Free bowel screening is available in NZ every two years for those aged 60–74. If you're Māori or Pacific, you’ll be invited to screen from age 50.

📬 It’s a simple test sent to your home that checks for early signs of cancer, before symptoms appear.

A bowel screening test is for people who do not have any obvious symptoms of the disease. Discover more here:

If you need to see a GP sooner than we can offer, or would prefer the flexibility of online care, we recommend The Doctors Online. 💻 It’s a trusted service for non-urgent medical advice and prescriptions.

While we encourage continuity of care with your usual GP — for physical exams, long-term health management, and building a trusted relationship — we understand that life can get busy. Work, travel, or family commitments can make in-person visits difficult at times. That's where The Doctors Online can help.

Are your family's immunisations up to date?

It’s easy to check! Use the personalised immunisation schedule on Health New Zealand’s website to see what vaccines your child needs from 6 weeks to 13 years.

🔹 Missed a vaccine? No worries! Most immunisations can be caught up.
🔹 Need advice? Talk to your GP or nurse for guidance.

Staying up to date helps protect your whānau and community! 💙

In Aotearoa New Zealand we have a National Immunisation Schedule. This sets out the free vaccines offered to pēpi, tamariki, teenagers and adults at certain times in their life.

Who should get immunised and when? 💉

Immunisations protect you, your whānau, and the community from serious diseases. In NZ, key immunisation programmes include:

✅ Flu vaccine – Protects those most at risk from influenza
✅ Childhood immunisations – A national schedule for tamariki aged 0-5 years
✅ Measles (MMR) – For those who may not have been fully immunised as a child
✅ Covid-19 vaccine & boosters – For ongoing protection

Vaccinations start when pēpi are 6 weeks old and continue into adulthood, providing the best protection when given at the right time.

📍 Learn more:

Immunisations start when babies are 6 weeks old and continue into adulthood. Immunising at the recommended times gives the best protection.

Welcome to our practice

We are a well established family general medical practice in the Waimauku community with the same excellent team of dedicated GPs and practice nurses. It is our aim to provide quality individual and family health care, with a focus on the importance of a strong relationship between patient and healthcare provider. We also have a satellite medical centre nearby The Doctors Silver Fern - 120m walk away.

We are proud to be a Cornerstone Accredited practice. This achievement, set by The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners, ensures you receive the highest quality care. We have a large, purpose-built Medical and Accident centre with plenty of parking and ease of access. There is a disability parking space or patients are welcome to be dropped off at the front door. There are two ambulance bays.

Consultations are by appointment only and we appreciate your understanding that as a rural practice, sometimes there are delays due to urgent medical need or emergencies. Our patients may also have a support person present during a consultation.

In addition to the services mentioned below we also offer the the services of driving medicals, family planning and pregnancy, sexual health, and pharmacy. The Waimauku Village Pharmacy is owned and operated by Robbie Hannon, who employs a skilled group of pharmacists and technicians to give advice and dispense medication. All prescriptions can be filled Monday to Friday. Robbie also has a full retail Pharmacy now located in the Waimauku Village, next door to our satellite medical centre The Doctors Silver Fern.
