For the next 10 weeks Eszter will guide you back into the basics!

Even if you have been enjoying our classes at Bream Bay Pilates for years, or you are toying with the idea of starting your sessions, this is a good time to jump into this series!

Starting from Mat1, throughout the next few weeks you can work your way up to a strong, intermediate practitioner!

It may seem easy at the beginning, but you will quickly notice how far you have come!

Come to classes in Ruakaka on Tuesdays at 5:15pm or Thursdays at 8am & let’s get down to business!

There are lots of mat pilates movements that translate to the reformer & vice versa.

For example, a bridge at the beginning of a class - reformer or on the mat - can help you with axial elongation.

Which is the activation of your spine, simply put.

Maybe this week focus on movements that can be practiced on the mat as well as on the reformer if you enjoy both!

Either during a mat session or in the studio we love using props to either challenge or soften an exercise!

These two options are the main benefits of using props.

Simply imagine one of those exercises that make your heart race.

Maybe the hundred - on the mat or on a reformer!

Now, imagine you are handed this ring & we ask you to place the ring between your legs & hold it there.

Does that make the pose easier or a little more challenging?

Now, imagine we ask you to put your feet or your thighs through the ring as you hold onto it in your hundred position!

Which way did it steer the experience of this pose for you?

As you may know, there are more ways you can benefit from using a prop, but finding a way to support your practice will always be the most valuable!

At Bream Bay Pilates we have all the equipment a studio & your body need.

Often when clients are on this equipment, they look around and quietly ask: “is this a torture chamber?”

Well, you can look at the glads half full or half empty. 🥛

We prefer thinking of these odd looking machinery as the tool to help you combat any health or physical histories in your body for a better future.

Here are some of the daily occurrences we deal with in the body:
• lower back pain
• other spine pathologies
• total hip replacements
• knee replacements
• ankle & foot issues
• weaker upper body strength
• relaxed core or pelvic muscles
• vertigo, carpal tunnel, tennis & golf elbow
• challenged balance
• overall body function
• and many more!

Now, if you have had a history with any of the ones mentioned above, these do not mean that you are less of a person!

It only shows that you live an active & full life!

Because our bodies do wear & tear (I’m sorry to break this news to you)!

We often surprise our regular clients with props (they often refer to as torture devices) in our mat classes.

These little blue balls come in 2 different weights to support everyone’s needs.

Here are a few ways you can use them in your practice:
• add weight to your arms as you move
• squeeze between legs to challenge muscles
• balance on top of your head, back or other parts to promote dissociation
• use it in a tactile way when there is no other feed back

And if you have been to any of our classes, then you know they can truly change a simple routine to a challenging one!

As you can see, we are busy getting the renewed studio up & running before you come for a visit!

Carpet is down, walls are painted, now the shelves and reformers to go!

You are all familiar with the saying:
NEW YEAR - NEW ME!

Well, this will be true for our studio in Waipu!

We have been busy during the holidays, working on renewing the exterior and interior of our beloved reformer studio!

The holidays also mean that everyone is enjoying their cocktail hour (just like our hardworking builders), so classes may not restart until the 17th of January.

We will definitely let you know once the paint has dried & the carpet has been laid.

Until then, make sure you give this year a hundred… the Joseph Pilates way!

Our Studio Teachers.

Barbara (in blue) is the founder of Bream Bay Pilates with many years of experience, however, you may know her from her sharp sense of humour and great eyes for details (she will spot if your feet are not at the right position from the other end of the room...)

Natalie is a newer addition to Bream Bay Pilates, however, her dedication to the principles will leave you shaking after a class. Obviously in a good way.

We both share our passion in making our clients feel undefeated by any exercise we give them & helping them with any requests they may have.
