Story time 🙂
Normally, I’m quite private about my personal life. Boundaries are important in my industry, but at the end of the day I am also just another human going through life & lately it has not been easy!

This is my mum. She was diagnosed with HER2+ breast cancer in October last year & started chemo in early December.
Watching & supporting anyone go through chemo is not easy. Going through it yourself is obviously much harder. The physical side effects, the psychological side, its treatment and everything it does to your body, mind & life. I have a whole new level of compassion for anyone dealing with it in any way.

From a professional perspective, it’s made me think more about how to support people going through cancer with my skills. Restorative massage for the support people & gentle massage for those going through treatment to help with the happy-brain chemicals.
I haven’t done the training required to treat cancer patients with lymphatic drainage, but naturally, this is something I’m now looking in to.

Mum completed her last chemo session mid-April, and is now preparing for surgery which will be mid-May. After that, it’s likely she’ll need radiation too.

On top of everything, there is also a financial stress. One of the drugs needed wasn’t funded in the public system, so we’ve needed to pay out of pocket. Cancer drugs aren’t cheap, so I set up a Givealittle page to try to raise some donations to help with the cost ($45k goal 😬). If this is something you’re able to help with, any amount is greatly appreciated. Aside from that, keeping me busy is also hugely helpful so I can afford to help with the cost. If you know anyone who needs a massage, please tell them about me if you’re happy to! Again, it will be greatly appreciated.

To my clients whose appointments I’ve needed to move around, thank you for understanding and being flexible. For the last few weeks of May my availability might also be a little different, but please remember you’re welcome to message if you can’t find the perfect time you’re after.

Thank you 🤍☀️

I've been a little unsure lately about paywave and credit card surcharges, I actually thought the ban had already been passed and actioned. It hasn't.

Here's the latest info I could find about the topic, so please have a read.

I will continue to pass the surcharge on to my customers who want to use credit and paywave until I'm no longer legally allowed. It actually really adds for a tiny business, so instead of putting my prices up for everyone, I prefer the 'user pays' kinda setup. I think that's fair.

New Zealand will ban most in-store card payment surcharges by May 2026. Learn how this affects your business and what steps to take.

I went for a surf the other day with some surf friends at one of the local spots I hadn’t actually surfed before. I spent a lot of the time in the water thinking…why the heck have I not come here yet?! 🤯😅 It was such a fun time 🥰 the sun was shining, the waves were bigger than I’d had in a while, this surf-girl pack was there, and my mum came down to meet me afterwards too 😊 (we won’t talk about the water quality 😬🫣)

Looking at this first photo, I’m thinking wow, I know some pretty epic humans from the health & wellness industry, but it’s even cooler that we can all surf together. I guess we could…..we could call it an industry business meeting?? 👀😁
Jokes aside, it is super cool that we all share this mutual love of surfing, and we all understand what it does to and for our bodies, but also our minds. After not getting in the water for just over three months, this particular week of waves was much needed, and did so so so much good for me mentally.

Let’s take a look at who these rad people are from left to right:
- We’ve got Amy from Activate fitness - a PT and Pilates instructor here on the coast who also has a special interest in exercise nutrition for women around the perimenopause era
- Next is Natalie, a very good friend I made through the local longboard club who teaches Yin yoga at the leisure centre on Wednesday nights, and is also a nurse
- infront we’ve got the best surf physio you could wish for, Michelle from in Rosedale
- and then that’s me in the back in the yellow with my lovely mum next to me
With our powers combined……🤓 ⚡️ maybe we should start a new business of some sort?? 😁

Health is so holistic. It’s not just about the food we eat, or the exercise we do. It’s also the people we surround ourselves with, the relationships we nurture, how we look after our minds, our spiritual selves (very different for everybody!), and our general sense of self and our individual place in the world.

When you really need it, how do you show up for yourself? What do you do for yourself to make your mind and body feel calm, clear, centered, and relaxed again?

Who knew that mailchimp charges people now for tiny newsletter lists?! Not me 🙈
I announced my massage voucher deal before realising they’d introduced a fee and blocked my account, so instead of sending it to the newsletter list, I sent an old school standard email to my top regular clients. I figured it was a good time to reward my regulars and main supporters!

Plenty of people took me up on the voucher deal, so I dont have any more to offer my social media followers…BUT i have something pretty great on the way which I will announce here very soon, and it will be for anyone and everyone, so make sure you stay tuned!! 👀😁🥳🥳

Voucher deal alert! $100 for a one hour massage…. But only (for now) if you’re on my mailing list 🤓😇

I almost never do deals or specials, and certainly not for this price!! However, i have injured myself again rendering me unable to massage last week or this week 🙃 (I can do reiki treatments this week though!!).

I got to spend half a day at north shore hospital last week (lucky me 😅) after tearing my thumbnail half off doing the very dangerous activity of…opening my blinds 🤪 It sounds like a small thing, but when you use that part to apply firm pressure to other peoples skin and muscles….its rather significant!
Naturally, Pete my beachCat is happy I will have more time to take him for walks 🥰🤓

This voucher special is open first to those of you subscribed to my newsletter, and there is a limit to how many I’m able to sell.
If by the end of the week that limit has not been reached, i’ll open this offer up to my followers here.

As always, there will be Ts n Cs for the usage of these vouchers, so please read carefully!
Newsletter subscribers - keep an eye out on your inboxes
Followers here - keep an eye out for an update at the end of the week to see if theres any vouchers left over!

As always, thanks for supporting my small biz
😁😊☀️

New toy! Finally I remembered 😁 by the power of instagram algorithms and impulsive buying, I’ve just got myself a new TENS device from from right here in NZ.

Have you used one before??
I spent about an hour playing with all the settings and I LOVE it.
My physio has been encouraging me to get one to help with the chronic pain that I still experience from my surfing injury (two years ago already!! 🫣), so I’m going to give this one a go.
I liked the look of it because you can use it without any wires getting in the way or twisted around you.

If you’re not familiar with these types of gadgets, I think I’ll explain another time how they work to interrupt the pain signals..so check in again!

Now to test how high I can set this while I’m massaging someone 😁
