Emily The Massage Therapist - Ōmahu Wellness Remedial, relaxation, & sports massage. Reiki. Mindfulness. Dr Vodder Lymphatic Drainage. 👐🏼☀️😊 Hello! Emily here. I look forward to meeting and treating you!

Rest assured you are in safe and well experienced hands when with me. I finished studying my Diploma of Therapeutic Massage and Remedial Therapies in 2009 in Auckland, and have gone on to formally study further in Advanced Sports Massage, Aromatherapy, Traditional Thai Massage and Myofascial Release. I’m a registered level 6 massage therapist with Massage New Zealand, and a member of Sports Medici

ne NZ, which means that I’m committed to on-going learning and development, every year. Last and definitely not least, I am currently studying the Dr Vodder technique of Manual Lymphatic Drainage and Combined Decongestive Therapy. As this is an extremely in depth technique catering to all levels of lymphatic system pathologies, I am not yet qualified or trained well enough to treat people with less than healthy lymphatic systems - keep me in mind for early 2021 when I will have completed my training! Emily :-)

Who loves a great hand or arm massage?! I do!!
If you use your hands and/or arms a lot for your work, a really thorough forearm or full arm massage should not be overlooked.

Tradies of all sorts - builders, plumbers, electricians, hair dressers, nail techs, beauty therapists, massage therapists, the list goes on! One thing we all have in common is the heavy use of our hands/arms for the work we do.
Repetitive use of all those small muscles in our forearms that we use for gripping tools or doing fine or specific work can, over time, cause an incredible amount of tension through our arms. If left alone, this can cause things like tennis and golfers elbow, or carpal tunnel syndrome.

If this sounds a bit like you or someone you know, but you’ve never thought of massaging your arms before…let me change your world 😁 get in touch and we can have a chat about whats going on with you and how i might be able to help 💪

🤰Pre & post-natal massage🤰I love accumulating new skills! 🤓
I’m sitting here in my morning coffee spot watching the sky change with the sunrise thinking over the new things I’ve learnt this past weekend.

Marina Locke from Mother Wellness was in Auckland running one of her pre/post-natal pregnancy massage practitioner courses. She was my tutor for pregnancy massage during my diploma 16 years ago, but this particular course is a bit of a level up and has taught me a few extras that I’m really looking forward to sharing with all you Mamas out there..tell ya friends!
Marina has an incredible amount of knowledge and experience, way too much to write here 😁 so you can find out more about her at: www.motherwellness.com Really really cool to have been able to learn from her again.

I’ve currently got about 6 or 7 spaces left this week, so be in touch if you’re keen to get in, or book yourself in online (yes I’ve turned that back on! Hooray!). There’s some short weeks coming up in April too, so booking ahead is always a smart idea.

Happy Monday!

Table Talk! I was doing a massage the other day for someone, and at the end they said to me “It’s amazing the amount of heat that comes off your hands”. ‘Oh you notice that do you?’ I replied. “It’s incredible” they said.

I take this as quite a complement. I don’t have hot hands during a treatment because I am warm in temperature, but they heat up with the flow of energy that goes to you. There’s a lot of different names for that type of energy and where it comes from, but you can rest assured knowing that it’s all from the same place and it’s allllll good.

Lets just hope that winter doesn’t turn my hands into icicles 😆🙊👐🏼

Turns out I haven’t been all that inspired to post on social media so far this year 😁🙈 I sat down on the couch and came on here today for a lil update because I’ve just come back from some time out, and I see that my last post was also…when I’d just come back from some time out 😃🤓

It’s good to have time out!! I’ve needed it.
Finding your unique balance in life is a personal thing different for all of us and depends on so many different factors. I’m trying my best not to max myself out, coz that is no bueno for the nervous system.

This time of year, end of the financial year, feels like my new years. It’s always around now that I do a bit of extra planning, looking through the year to see what I want to try to achieve or accomplish, what new training I might need to do, and where I want to take any other breaks…although that often depends on the surf forecast 👀🙊

So far this year I have committed to upskilling with my pregnancy massage. Turns out the person who was my tutor all those years ago when I trained during my initial massage diploma, is still running pregnancy massage courses…but even better. I’m looking forward to learning some new tricks for all you lovely mamas out there 🤗

Later in the year there are more lymphatic drainage and reiki courses, but I remain undecided for now on how to juggle all of these 😁 always learning! 🤓

I’ll be turning my online booking system on again soon, but I want to give a chance first to my existing clients to get in touch and book ahead before I open up to the public. So take this as a sign to send that text/email to moi if you’ve been thinking about it but haven’t got round to it yet 😁

I hope you’re enjoying the last of these warmer days, get all that vit D possible while it’s out there to help you have a healthier winter (FYI: 9am is sunshine o’clock in the clinic room if you want to be covered in sunshine whilst getting a massage 😁☀️)

I’m back! Back to work, sufficiently sunned and rested. I’ve spent a lot of my days in the water which has been wonderful, and had a lot of time to tend to my flowers and take Pete for his walks 😁

I’m easing back in to massage appointments, and slowly clearing my backlog of emails and text enquiries. If you’re wanting to start your new year off with a massage but haven’t been in touch yet, please send a message through my website and I’ll get to you soon as poss.

Just a reminder that I do have a cancelation policy which I stick to. I’ve already had someone try to cancel within 24hrs and tell me my policy is unfair, then proceed to get their husband on the phone who tried to intimidate me in to being soft. This does not work on me 🙂 some things I won’t charge for, but these don’t happen often.

I hope you’ve had a lovely relaxing holiday period, and I look forward to seeing you back on the massage table soon!

R O S E M A R Y essential oil - Rosemarinus officianalis

I’ve been using a lot of rosemary lately during my massages. On the body, it’s said to be analgesic and rubefacient, meaning that it can ease pain and is warming and stimulating of blood flow. Why is this good for us in the massage room? Coz when you’ve got those sore tight muscles from working out a lot, it helps to bring blood circulation to the area it’s applied, which helps them to heal a little faster, mixed with the massage technique of effleurage (Swedish massage 101), your muscles should be feeling nice and relieved once we’re done. I often mix this with black pepper oil which has a similar effect.

Rosemary essential oil is also great to use in steam inhalations. It’s stimulating for the mind and the central nervous system, and can help to lift depressions.

There are a lot of different types of rosemary plants out there with different chemical makeups. Clinically, I prefer to use the camphor CT or the 1,8 cineole CT varieties. Some oils out there on the shelf can be adulterated with eucalyptus or camphor oil, to stretch them out in a cheap way, which is not hard to spot to a well trained nose.

Rosemary is also simply a great hardy plant to have in the garden, even in coastal environments, and is a basic in the kitchen as we all know. I like to make fresh Rosemary tea too…throw a bit of mint in there aswell… yummo 😋😁🌱

Getting my daily dose of vitamin d with my furry bébé Pete.
My daily dose of caffeine generally happens here too 😁 it’s a good spot for pondering and soaking things in, the waves down below, the bird song from the hillside, my herb garden 👀😁 and the wind in the leaves of all the surrounding trees.

I take my small moments of peace when I can. Even for 10 mins I find can be helpful, as I can then focus a bit more on all the work tasks I give to myself 😁
I need to fill my cup so I can help you fill yours, blissing out on nature is absolutely one of my favourite ways ☀️🌸🌼🥰
