Really looking forward to this in person event. NOW group and student rates available. Don't miss this wonderful event!

Breastfeeding Medicine Association of Aotearoa (BMAA) is excited to have Dr Yvonne LeFort speaking at our Educational Event for Healthcare Professionals on March 2, 2026. Yvonne serves as the Co-chair of the BMAA.

Dr LeFort is a Fellow of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners; a North American Board-certified Breastfeeding and Lactation Medicine doctor (NABBLM-C) and has practiced Breastfeeding Medicine in Auckland for over 20 years. She is the Medical Director of Milford Breastfeeding Clinic on Auckland’s North Shore.

She is an active member and volunteer for the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine and the Breastfeeding Medicine Network Australia / New Zealand. She currently serves on the Board of the New Zealand Breastfeeding Alliance and is a member of the World Breastfeeding Trends Initiative New Zealand.

Yvonne is one of the authors writing the revision of ABM’s clinical protocol on Tongue tie and the Breastfeeding Infant. She is also part of an international team involved in the development of a clinical guideline for doctors assessing breastfeeding infants with ankyloglossia for treatment decision making along with an ad hoc group seeking to clarify clinical management of tongue tie in Canada.

Yvonne has two adult breastfed sons and spends a lot of time tracking their movements around the globe. She enjoys running, tramping and singing.

She will speak to us on Tackling Tongue tie reviewing the evidence base and current practice issues.

We are all looking forward to hearing Dr Yvonne LeFort and enjoying a day of refreshment and networking among colleagues in this live and in-person only event.

Newsflash!!!
Dr LeFort became board-certified in Breastfeeding and Lactation Medicine this past year in 2025 ( NABBLM-C) and as an advocate for greater recognition of this viable medical discipline, she decided it was time to not to recertify as a IBCLC after 24 years of holding this credential. She is very grateful that the IBLCE was there in 2002 to grow her interest in Breastfeeding as a Family Doctor. Now with the Breastfeeding Medicine Association of Aotearoa (BMAA) her knowledge and skill consolidated and recognized with a Board certification in Breastfeeding and Lactation Medicine she no longer identifies as a lactation consultant. The unique roles of a lactation consultant and a medical doctor educated and trained in Breastfeeding and Lactation have much to offer our breastfeeding whanau. With the greatest respect for her LC colleagues, many of whom have taught her so much, Dr LeFort is effectively no longer an IBCLC, but as a NABBLM-C is looking forward to providing state of the art Breastfeeding Medical care in a multidisciplinary supportive care Aotearoa for all our breastfeeding mama and pēpi in Aotearoa. Not retiring as still lots to do. Happy New Year!

Does social media impact on post partum women's mental health during the first six weeks? I would agree yes as it devalues the very important intuitive thinking of the parents and creates a continuous state of uncertainty.

An Australian mum says she found herself "absorbing way too much social media". "I found it was difficult to tune into my mothering instincts amongst the 'noise'."
