With a massive apology to our fabulous receptionist staff, a belated Happy International Receptionists’ Day for yesterday!

The planet was off its kilter yesterday, and I meant to post but then things got in the way. However, please know we appreciate you EVERY day! 🥰

Our lovely team are the first people to greet you either on the telephone or the front desk. Without them, the medical centre could not run smoothly!

Thank you all. 💕💕💕

Holiday Hours over Christmas 🎄 and New Year. 🎉

It's all a bit mucky this time of year, isn't it? Is this business or that business open or closed??

The quick answer about Waiuku Health Centre is that we will be CLOSED on Christmas Day and New Year's Day to give our staff a break.❤

Then we will be open for shortened hours - for Urgent-Only appointments - on the other statutory holidays, but normal business hours the rest of the time.

So our opening hours are as follows:

Tuesday, 24 December (Christmas Eve): 8:30 am - 5 pm (usual business hours)
Wednesday, 25 December (Christmas Day): CLOSED
Thursday, 26 December (Boxing Day): 8:30 am - 1 pm
Friday, 27 December: 8:30 am - 5 pm (usual business hours)
Saturday, 28 December: 8:30 am to 1 pm
Sunday, 29 December: CLOSED

Monday, 30 December: 8:30 am - 5 pm (usual business hours)
Tuesday, 31 December (New Year's Eve): 8:30 am - 5 pm (usual business hours)
Wednesday, 1st January 2025 (New Years Day): CLOSED
Thursday, 2nd January (statutory holiday): 8:30 am - 1 pm
Friday, 3rd January - resume normal hours.

Hope that makes sense!

You can telephone to make an urgent appointment by calling reception on ☎️ 09 235 9102.

When Waiuku Health Centre is closed you can call 0800 2 Ka Ora (0800 252 672) for phone and video consultations.

Remember we will be closed this Saturday 9 November 2024 as we transition to a new IT system. We will also open later than usual on Monday 11 November 2024 ... at 9am. Thank you for your understanding.

New Patient Management System and Portal

Between 4 and 15 November 24, we will be implementing a new Practice Management System (PMS).

We are excited that the new system will enhance the services we can offer, but there will inevitably be some disruption during implementation, as staff are firstly trained on the new system and then become accustomed to using it.

One impact is that during the implementation period, we will have fewer than usual appointments available in both booked and on the day clinics. Please bear with us … and consider if your routine appointment can wait until after the implementation. As ever, please request repeat prescriptions well in advance of running out of medications.

To allow the migration of data between systems, please note we will be CLOSED on Saturday 9th November.

If you are currently signed up to ManageMyHealth, you will shortly receive communications on how to switch to the new patient portal MyIndici.

Fee Changes from 1 Jul 24

Kia ora,

We aim to keep fees to a minimum while offering fair pay to staff and ensuring our services are sustainable.

After careful review, new fees will apply from 1 Jul 24 affecting standard GP Consults and Triage Services. For most registered patients and types of appointment, they remain lower than with other local providers including urgent care.

As always, if you have difficulty paying for your appointment, please let us know - there is the option is to set up a small regular automatic payment to spread the cost.

For details of the changes see

From 1 Apr 24, Nurse consult fees will be increased. It is over 10 years since we last increased these fees and we do so now due to rising costs. If ever cost is a barrier to you accessing care, please let us know, so we can discuss payment options.

Wellness Wednesday: Staying hydrated in autumn

With the cooler weather coming upon us, it's easy to think that we don't need to worry so much about our fluid intake. However, staying hydrated in autumn and winter is just as important as the warmer months.

When the temperature drops, we are less likely to experience thirst or notice that we have been sweating, especially when we are bundled up. Even when we aren't sweating, we are still losing water through our skin, and this is made worse when there are heaters on.

Dehydration can lead to an increased risk for constipation, kidney stones or urinary tract. infections (UTIs).

So make sure to keep up the fluids!

If you'd like assistance with keeping well and managing healthy lifestyle choices, please make a free appointment to see our Health Coach, James. You can ring to make an appointment with him on ☎️ 09 235 9102.

Wellness Wednesday! Staying active in autumn

With the change in the weather, we can often lose our enthusiasm for exercise and the outdoors. However, staying fit is important for our wellbeing, especially as the weather cools and the pesky cold and flu bugs are around us. Exercise helps boost our immune system.

Being outdoors is also important in the colder months as less exposure to daylight means a reduction of the natural body chemical Serotonin - it's a neurotransmitter that, amongst other things, affects our ability to learn, our mood, sleep patterns and appetite.

We've compiled some suggestions below for keeping active in autumn, that will hopefully be helpful. 💙🧡

If you don't have someone to walk with, please feel free to join our Tuesday morning walking group! We meet in the Kentish car park just before 10 am each Tuesday, and go for a gentle walk around the town and surrounds. We'd love to see you!
