This new rōpū at Man Alive - Tāne Ora is a 12 week kaupapa mostly made up of men referred through the Drug Court system, focused on men in relationships.
But before we can build healthy relationships with partners, tamariki, and whānau, we first have to rebuild the relationship with ourselves.
Then we learn how to build healthy relationships with each other inside the rōpū.
This space is not about one man standing above another.
It is about men standing beside each other.
Every voice has mana.
Everybody learns differently, but we grow together.
This is kotahitanga.
This is mana restoration.
We learn that emotions are not the enemy. They help us create, protect, love, and connect. But when the emotional mind runs unchecked, we often repeat the same cycles of violence, addiction, broken relationships, illness, and pain.
So together, we learn another way.
We learn to pause, notice patterns, step out of autopilot, and strengthen the wise mind instead of letting the wounded child steer the waka.
As facilitator, I may bring the kaupapa, the stimulus, or the wero, but the wisdom belongs to the collective.
Each session begins with introspective work in the ngākau and hinengaro, then we move it through the tinana with breath, movement, connection, and mau rākau.
Because healing is not just something we think about.
It is something we practise together.
The goal is for these tāne to return to their partners and whānau with new mātauranga so they can be safer, healthier, and different from when they arrived.
Tīhei mauri ora.
