Happy Matariki!

You don’t need a big event to honour Matariki. Take a moment to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and plan for the future – in your own way. Share a meal. Light a candle. Plant something new. Remember someone special. Make time for those you love. It’s not about doing more – it’s about doing what matters.

✨ You already have everything you need.

🌌 Matariki is best seen on a clear morning just before sunrise, low on the north-eastern horizon. Find out how to spot the star cluster here: https://youtu.be/VN7MkI53Gl0

As gaming gets more immersive, hearing loss is becoming an invisible risk. 24% of young adults are at risk from unsafe listening, and gamers are twice as likely to have high-frequency hearing loss.

The new World Health Organization (WHO) global standard aims to protect players of all ages so they can enjoy the soundscape without damaging their ears.

Have you heard of white label hearing aids?

White labelling is common in many industries. Supermarkets, for example, often sell the same product under different brand names. But when it comes to your health – particularly your hearing – it’s worth taking a closer look.

It’s New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) Week – and a great time to learn a sign or two!

NZSL is one of New Zealand’s official languages, alongside te reo Māori, and according to the 2023 Census more than 24,000 people use it – including around 4,500 Deaf users.

Learning something as simple as ‘want help?’ could make all the difference to someone's day.

Keen to give it a go?
👉 Check out the resources at www.nzsignlanguage.nz
👉 Explore the NZSL Dictionary at www.nzsl.nz (also available as an app)

A huge thank you to everyone who supported Teresa Burns Hearing’s fundraiser!

On ANZAC Day, Teresa ran a special wax removal clinic, raising over $630 for the Cook Islands. Thanks to the generosity of many, including donations from our New Zealand Hearing audiologists, this money will go towards purchasing a VoroTek unit – a head-worn magnification light (like the one Ricki is wearing in the photo) that will help him perform earwax removal more safely and easily at Rarotonga Hospital.

A special thanks to retired Ear Nurse Specialist Margaret Couillault for sharing her knowledge, and to Ricki for his ongoing dedication to improving ear care in his community. This effort brings us closer to our long-term goal of empowering local healthcare workers and ensuring sustainable hearing care in the Cook Islands.

Meitaki ma'ata for your support!

Thank you so much to everyone who donated to our Rarotonga fundraiser. Together we raised $631.53!

Special thanks to our Guest Star Margaret Couillault, retired Ear Nurse Specialist, who helped us for the day sharing her wealth of knowledge and experience.

I've ordered the VoroTek unit, together with pledges from several colleagues we should just about have everything covered.

Huge thanks and well done all around (pic below of Margaret, Ricky and me from Friday).

Aotearoa’s hearing experts

Early on we made a decision. To get Kiwis to love their hearing again. 20 years of audiology experience taught our founder Scott Wright that clients derive the greatest benefit and joy from hearing solutions when they receive innovative and comprehensive clinical services. He couldn’t help but notice that the large manufacturer-owned network providers were failing to provide some pretty fundamental services like continuity of care and same day fittings. The real-world impact of this shortcoming was undeniable (and still is) with a large number of our clients presenting with hearing aids they simply aren’t happy with. Somehow the love had disappeared from hearing care in Aotearoa. Something needed to change. So in 2014 New Zealand Hearing sprung to life focussed on bringing high quality, locally-owned hearing healthcare back to our communities. Today our nationwide owner-operator group boasts some of the world’s most respected audiologists. Booking an appointment at any one of our 100% locally owned and operated audiology clinics throughout the country, gives you direct access to these independent hearing experts. Each is committed to finding exactly the right hearing solution for you whilst providing exceptional service and aftercare so you’re truly able to love your hearing again.
