"I don't need a funeral when I die"...but your family and loved ones do.
I sometimes wonder how families get through the heartbreak of farewelling their loved one, especially in a tragic or public circumstance. Even if your life has been long and well lived, the people who mourn your loss, need time to come to terms with it, and to say their farewell. It's how we come together to mourn, to express our grief, and to support each other. It's how we help each other transition from life with you in it, to this new life without you. We might be scared, anxious, sad, or hopeless. Your funeral can help to remind us that although each of us grieves in our own way, we are not alone, and we can get through this with support from our friends and community. It reminds us there is hope, and love, and precious memories. You may not need a funeral, but your funeral can help those who love you, enormously. Every culture, every family, needs the strength they find in each other to cope with loss ❤
