Today, we join Age Concern New Zealand in celebrating the UN International Day of Older Persons on 1 October 2025.
This important day honours the invaluable contributions older people make to our communities and workplaces whilst raising awareness of the challenges they face. It's a call to action for all of us to support ageing well.
We can all play a role in creating more age-inclusive environments. This means seeing the person, not the stereotype. Calling out unconscious bias when we encounter it. Treating older people with genuine respect, without condescension. Being kind, patient, and friendly in our interactions. Standing strong against abuse and neglect. And reaching out to connect, because isolation affects people of all ages.
Let's build communities and workplaces where everyone can age with dignity and respect. Visit Age Concern New Zealand for practical resources on supporting older people: https://www.ageconcern.org.nz/
