The Government has announced that prescription lengths will be extended in future, but the change isn’t in place yet.

Right now, the maximum length for most prescriptions is still three months.

The new rules are expected to come into effect in 2026, and there’s work happening behind the scenes to get systems and regulations ready.

When it does come in, it could mean that people with stable, long-term conditions may be able to get prescriptions for up to 12 months, but that will depend on what’s safe and appropriate for each person.

We’ll make sure you have clear information closer to the time - nothing changes for now.

Tawa Community Centre have weekly drop-in sessions for those struggling financially every Tuesday between 10am and 1pm. Poverty Free Aotearoa advocates are volunteers - just head down and have a chat to find out what support might be available to you.
No need to make an appointment.

Yesterday was World Hypertension Day.

If you haven't had your blood pressure checked for a while, consider booking a nurse appointment to have this done. We can update your 5year cardiovascular risk, and explore how to reduce your risk of heart attack and strokes.

If you have blood pressure machine at home, please bring this to your nurse appointment to check it is reading accurately.

If your blood pressure is too high, it can cause permanent damage to your heart, eyes, kidneys and brain. Would you know if you had high blood pressure?

We have POWER again at TAWA! We have been out of power at Tawa Medical since yesterday but thankfully the lights are back on and the surgery is now toasty warm again. Please be patient with us as there is quite a backlog of work to be done and the power shortage has impacted on our appointment availability. It is possible if you have requested scripts by phone that these might not have been received . Please contact your pharmacy to check your script has arrived if you have ordered one between Wednesday evening and today via our phoneline.
