Whakanui just received a new contract after a few months delay while DSS settled into their new ministry. Happy to be back in business. :)

Whakanui is two years old!! We now have five team leaders or trainee team leaders and a team of 17 in total. Check out our website (although not everyone has listed a bio). We have also gained several contracts and are keeping busy. It's been a good two years. Great work team!

We were saddened to hear about the passing of Sir Robert Martin today. Sir Robert was an important contributor to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Disabled People and a staunch advocate for Learning Disabled people in Aotearoa New Zealand. He was also a friend and will be sorely missed, especially as services for disabled people and their families and whanau enter and uncertain and worrying period in this country.

Kia Ora. We are one year old and have an active group of team members with lived experience of disability or neuordivergence, including young people - which is great!! Not everyone has opted to be listed on the website yet but check out some of the team. www.whakanui.co.nz
Also, we have a growing number of contracts which includes working directly with providers. This had always been an ambition.
The Whakanui team works as a collective for most decisions. We meet monthly and these meetings have been well attended.
To learn more about us visit the website or contact the director.
Happy first birthday team!!!

Whakanui: Elevate Learn Transform. Whakanui means celebration - we aim to celebrate people and their abilities and those who strive to work for and in partnership with disabled people and their families or whānau. Through-- evaluation--training--support

Kia Ora
We have four new team members who have just completed 16 hours of classroom work and now are on probation while they complete at least three evaluations with an experienced team. It was a great weekend of training involved our whole team.

We trained four new team members for Whakanui on the 11-12 Feb. A great weekend with a busy 16 hour training schedule. We now have three confirmed team leaders, and eight team members on our books with others on stand by. We also have a nice group of four young people (under 30 years old) who are trained as team members (three as trainees).
