🖤 Meet our Counsellors 🖤

Adele is a Little Shadow counsellor and second year counselling student. She is now available for in-person sessions on Thursdays in Lower Hutt as well as online on Mondays and Fridays.

Here's a little more from Adele...

"Some years ago, when I tried to find mental health support for a family member, I realised there was a dire shortage of counselling professionals in Aotearoa. This, along with my desire to give a little bit back to my community, prompted me to switch from a career in business to counselling.

I am mum to three teenagers, and I think parenting is the most rewarding, and challenging, job in the world. When my children were small I felt lonely, overwhelmed and out of my depth. I wished I had someone to talk to, and I think counselling is something every mum or expectant mum can benefit from. Pretending to the world that we’re okay when we’re falling to pieces on the inside is exhausting!

I believe the relationship I build with you is paramount, and my counselling approach is warm, empathetic and client-centred. I provide a supportive space where you can safely share your innermost thoughts and feelings without judgment."

Please see attached information for Women’s Health and Maternity Services.

Mask use

Medical masks must be worn by all visitors at all times while on our campuses and are available at our entrances.

Outpatient clinics

Patients are encouraged to come alone to their appointment if able. A maximum of one visitor to accompany a patient if required. Kaitiaki/Partners in care are not included in these numbers and may support / accompany at any time. Interpreters are not counted as visitors.

Birthing Suite and Maternity Wards (CCDHB includes 4 North Gynae)

For maternity services: one person (birthing partner) can accompany patients into the birthing suite. All admitted patients and their birthing partner will be screened or tested for COVID-19 for plan care location/pathways. The birthing partner can stay overnight with agreement of the Charge Midwife Manager (CMM)/Charge Nurse Manager (CNM).

When they leave the room they must wear a mask, use hand sanitiser and directly exit the hospital. COVID positive birthing partners are requested to not access any of the Cafes or shared areas onsite to prevent spread to staff and high risk patients.

Hi all, now we are at Red level, not much changes in terms of your care. We just wanted to remind you of a few things, as we want to minimise our risk of getting or passing on Covid-19, we come into contact with a lot of pregnant people and babies and want to keep everyone safe!
*We have all had our Covid vaccine boosters, hopefully that is reassuring.
* If you are unwell, please contact us in advance to reschedule, in some cases we can also do phone appointments. Please do not come to clinic if you have any symptoms of Covid or are awaiting a test result.
* Please wear a mask to clinic, and throughout your appointment.

*We understand you have to bring your children to appointments at times, please make sure they are also well, we can reschedule your appointment, if necessary, contact us via email.

There has been a lot of talk recently on vaccines and the vaccine mandate for midwives. The Midwifery Council (our professional body) has put out the statement below.

We always aim to provide our clients with up to date evidence for you to make decisions during your pregnancy, and this applies to us as well. We have all been fully vaccinated (back at the start) as we believe in doing so we protect ourselves, our whānau, our community and our clients. So the mandate will not change any of your care.

As part of their degree qualification midwives must complete education in science, research and vaccination. Midwives must continue to learn and develop this knowledge throughout their careers. The Council expects that midwives will provide wāhine and whānau with evidence based advice and informat...

For those of our lovely clients who have had their babies, we would be very grateful for your feedback.
This feedback forms part of our professional and personal reflection and helps us to deliver care that is individualised, woman-centred and quality driven.
If you follow the link below you can send us formal and confidential online feedback through the NZ College of Midwives (our professional body).

Please select "Feedback for Midwife Lead Maternity Carer" (this currently needs to be done under one of us not the practice, we are asking for this to be changed).
Thanks so much!

Many of our wonderful families have already signed up for this important study. Please have a look and let us know if you would like to sign up! https://www.wellkiwis.co.nz

The WellKiwis study follows children and households, watching closely to see how the first exposure to the flu or flu vaccine influences their ongoing immune response to the flu as they grow, and how the flu is spread in a household study.

Our Story

Wellington Midwifery Practice is a group of four experienced midwives from the Wellington area. We have developed an innovative, sustainable way of working whereby you are cared for by the four of us rather than one LMC Midwife. We work an on call/rostered system within our team of four, to ensure that the midwife who cares for you during your birth is well rested. We currently only provide care for women wishing to birth at Wellington Hospital, and we cover the central Wellington/Eastern suburbs/southern suburbs and northern suburbs up to and including Johnsonville. You will get to know all four of us at your regular antenatal appointments, so you will have a familiar face on the big day! We have rostered days off and annual leave, however because you meet and know us all your care will never be affected. You have access to a midwife 24/7 via our on call system for urgent events and labour. During labour and birth you will be guaranteed a midwife who is well rested, and it is very rare that we need to reschedule your antenatal or postnatal appointments. If there are any issues during your pregnancy, labour or birth we refer to the obstetric team at Wellington and continue to provide midwifery care. All members of our team are experienced across the spectrum of care - from the lowest risk pregnancy and birth through to complex medical care, alongside the obstetric team, we will provide excellent care, whatever your circumstances. Our clinic is situated at the Lychgate Centre, 100 Riddiford Street, and we hold antenatal appointments between 8am and 5pm on Tuesday’s and Thursday mornings. We visit you and your baby after the birth at your home until baby is 4 weeks old.

To contact us please email wellingtonmidwifery@outlook.co.nz with your due date, address and phone number, and we will be in touch asap.
