We warmly welcome to our team:

- Rheumatologist Dr Andrew Harrison started with us on the 15th of January

Associate Professor Andrew Harrison is a Wellington rheumatologist with three decades of experience in his field. His main interest is the treatment of inflammatory conditions, especially arthritis. An important part of his work is the assessment of patients who present with musculoskeletal pain and other symptoms in order to determine the diagnosis and the appropriate management. His main clinical role is the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, lupus (SLE), scleroderma, polymyalgia rheumatica, giant cell (temporal) arteritis, osteoarthritis, gout and many other inflammatory conditions.

Welcome to our newest Physiotherapist Jen Brennan! 🎉

Here's a little bit about Jen:

Jen is a senior physiotherapist with nearly 30 years’ experience working in London and New Zealand in private practice. She has a special interest in the kinetic chain and how everything connects and how this influences your sport, running and workouts.

Along with treating the present issue, she is also focused on why some injuries occur and the influence of poor movement patterns, past injuries, and core weakness.

She has a postgraduate diploma in manual therapy and manipulation along with training in Women’s Health, Milligan, McKenzie, and dry needling techniques.

When not working at the clinic Jen runs a Pilates class in Northland and does worksite assessments around town. She lives in Ngaio with her partner, two children, four chickens and a dog. Her interests include tramping, skiing, sailing, and gardening. She also practices Tai Chi and recently started doing Scottish country dancing!

To book an appointment with Jen, call our friendly administrative team on 04 499 5732.

This week is mental health awareness week.

And I am sure over the past 18 months most of us have all been aware in one way or another of our own mental health.

The mental health benefits of massage, with the link between physical & mental health is well known and researched.

Finding ways to help manage the stress of our everyday life can help build resilience and manage our well-being.

So here is why scheduling a regular massage may help not only your body but your mind and productivity.
-may help improve sleep.
-may help to relieve symptoms of depression.
-Promotes Oxytocin hormone. Promoting feelings of ease, well-being and comfort.
-Lowers cortisol the “stress” hormone, too much of this can lead to feeling exhausted and anxious.

Mental health is important and it’s good to take a holistic approach with other tools as well as massage.

If you wish to explore massage as an option please call our reception team to book your appointment (04 499 5732).

Rachel Thwaite
Manual and Movement Therapist.

Our Story

Capital Sports Medicine was set up in 1996 with just one physiotherapist and one sports doctor. Today we have grown to a team of over 25 including three sports doctors, nine physios, three podiatrists, four massage therapists, a sports nutritionist and specialists. And we cant forget our friendly admin team! We are one of the largest specialized sports clinics in New Zealand. While sports medicine is our specialty, our staff are trained to treat all types of injury and rehabilitation. www.capitalsportsmed.co.nz
