Planned to read more this year? Same. How’s that going?

We're here to make reading great fun again. Join us for the first-ever AWHI Book Club. Our first read: Rest Is Resistance by Tricia Hersey.

We’ll begin with half the book (Ch 1 & 2) for our 1st sesh on Wednesday, 1st April, 6:45-7:45pm — appropriately low-effort, given the theme.

We'll cover Ch 3 & 4 in Session 2 on Wed. 6th May, same time/place!

No pressure. No performative book-club energy. Definitely no homework policing.
Just show up, join the kōrero, and see what you think.

💚 Veena Patel - Book club founder & long time whānau, RYT-200 and co-founder of . Lawyer by trade. Lover of books. laughs and good chats. No visual historical evidence of ever having read a book, but strong yoga posture and hot takes since roughly 4 years old.

💚 Kathleen Kuehn - also long-time member, ERYT-500-turned-co-owner of providing low-level support. Lover of dill pickles & those salted choco chip cookies. Side hustles as a University lecturer in Media & Comms and has been an avid reader since before she could actually read (see pic ➡)

Whāia te iti kahurangi — strive for something of great value. 🌿

Striving doesn't have to mean burning out. I reckon we strive for something of great value every time we step onto our mat. Every intentionally drawn breath, every pose held a little longer than feels comfortable, every moment of stillness chosen over distraction — these are acts of striving.

More than just movement or perfecting a shape, asana & Pilates are also a commitment to *becoming*. To honouring what your body, mind, and spirit are capable of - to recognising your own resilience, potential and value.

So whatever brings you to your mat today, know that showing up is the pursuit of something great!

🗓️ TIMETABLE CHANGE! 🗓️
Based on your feedback (thanks for that!) switching up our Wednesday 5:30pm class to a 60-minute non-heated Power Vinyasa (formerly Align for 75 min) starting this week!

We hope the shorter class + less workshoppy/peak pose-focused format is a bit more accessible/appealing at this point in the week & gets you through that hump day with a bit more ease!

ALSO! As explains, don’t be put off by the “power” in Power Vinyasa…if you practice Heated Flown or Align, you’ve already been doing a form of PV! We’re just reducing the branding noise a wee bit and getting back to the basics of calling it what it is: a dynamic, well-themed flow that offers an opportunity to move the body in a creative yet grounding way.

Come give it a go and let us know what you think! Well re-evaluate after 6 weeks so any feedback you have is appreciated! We’re here to serve YOU not ourselves, so let’s find what works together. 💚💚💚

Saturday, 28 March, 6-8pm

Join us for a relaxing evening that combines Yin Yoga with Sound Meditation. Yin yoga, Himalayan singing bowls and gongs beautifully combine to promote deep relaxation, stress and anxiety reduction, clarity and balance to the mind and body alike.

Expect a 60 minute Yin Yoga session guided by AWHI co-owner , followed by a 60 minute Sound Meditation performed by Kāpiti musician, Sam McMillan .

No experience necessary. Dress comfortably (something you can move and rest in). All props + herbal tea provided. You might like to BYO eye mask or purchase one in reception!

Investment: $45 (20% off AWHI members on 3/6/12 month contract)

Calling all MFAT (Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade) staff and whānau!

We're running a private 10-week block course for all MFAT staff and whānau starting Wednesday, 4th March from 7:45am-8:45am! The class is a non-heated vinyasa class suitable for all-levels taught by AWHI co-owner Tom Brotherstone . It's the same great course we've run in the past, only this time you can bring your partners, close mates and/or fam!

1) It's KK's birthday! Cake & drinks provided after class! Where else would she celebrate?

2) It's the last Align before we trial a 60-min non-heated Power Vinyasa,,, so if all goes well this may likely be the *final* Wednesday Align! Maybe for this reason you come out and make your opinion known...but at any rate, stay for the drink and cake! 🍻🎂

🐎We love this passage from the Shvetashvatara Upanishad* because it reminds us that yoga is so much more than asana. Beyond asana, yoga has always asked us to direct our energy, actions and lifestyle constructively towards a higher goal. Through self-mastery, focused meditation, concentration, breathwork and other self-disciplinary actions, we train our senses away from distractions, uniting body, breath and mind to attain a higher state of peace (samadhi).

While a physical practice can certainly help us quiet the mind (the unruly horses), this is where many of us find our start. Don’t let that be where you stop.
