🍃 'Whakapuputia mai o mānuka, kia kore ai e whati' - Cluster the branches of the mānuka, so they will not break off 🍃

Just like the Mānuka, we’re stronger when we lean into connection and shared support. Your practice doesn’t have to be solitary - come move and breathe and grow with us in community. It's what we're here for! 🤞🏽

Taha whānau — our connections and relationships — help us stay grounded and resilient. When we practise together, we strengthen not just ourselves but the whole grove.

🔥 HEATED FLOW EXPLAINED 🔥

Ahhh, nothing like stepping out of the chilly wind and into a warm studio, then taking the temp up a bit more through several rounds of dynamic movement whilst breathing in tandem with other AWHI whānau...if you know you know and if you don't, come experience it for yourself!

Heated Flow is our most popular class - our bread n' butter, if you will - and you won't experience a vinyasa flow like this anywhere else in Wellington! This all-levels class begins with a bit of grounding and a few rounds of Sun A before we break down a sequence of 4-5 asana (poses) that you're then invited to 'flow through' on your own a few times to the tune of one movement, one breath. Often described as feeling 'like a dance,' this part of the sequencing gives you the opportunity to 'drop in' to your body/mind/heart, to replace your busy 'monkey mind' with a focused sense of mindful presence and connection (to self AND others!).

Our facilitators always offer variations to suit your level of practice, and plenty of opportunities to rest or even do your own thing if that's what's calling you on the day. Because our kaupapa is rooted in inclusiveness and accessibility, you are ALWAYS invited to take things at your own pace and make choices for yourself that align with your individual needs.

Haere mai!

✨ “Don’t come to be the best, come to do better.” ✨

On the mat, it’s never about competition or comparison — it’s about growth. The practice isn’t about perfection, either; it’s about showing up, paying attention, and moving forward in small, meaningful ways. 🌿.

💫 What small step are you taking to do better today?

🫶 INVEST IN YOUR WELLBEING 🫶

If you're practicing 2+ times per week than our Unlimited Membership is the option for you! Our unlimited memberships come with complementary mat hire and mat storage ($30-$50/month value), free monthly Yoga Nidra ($25 value), reduced pricing on AWHI events & workshops PLUS discounts with other local wellness providers -- all for $25-$35 per week (essentially the price of a decent pizza 🍕these days).

Payment schedules on our unlimited memberships come in a range of options, with 20% discount for full-time students, Community Services & Gold Card holders ('Concession rates'). Unlimited membership options include:

✨ Fortnightly ($69) or Monthly ($138) Direct Debit Autopay (3 month min); $55 / $110 Concession [that's $34.50 or $27.50 per week]

✨ 6-month Unlimited: $799; $699 Concession [just $31 or $27/week]

✨ 12-month Unlimited: $1499; $1299 Concession [just $29 or $25/week]

The best part about unlimited memberships is that they provide the incentive to practice more. This not only benefits your physical, mental and spiritual health but also uplifts taha whānau as you build stronger community ties with the other AWHI members and teachers you see regularly at the whare!

All Unlimited Memberships come w/ the ability to pause for a minimum of 2 weeks (max 8 per contract) and require 2 weeks cancelation notice. T&Cs available online.

And if you think anything like KK does, it's also worth considering that a weekly membership also runs the same price as:

💲A few takeaway coffees
💲Two pints at the pub (at happy hour, anyway!)
💲 A movie ticket + ice cream
💲A night of takeaways
..what other quick fix could you trade for a long-term investment in your wellbeing? We'd love to hear your ideas in the comments below!

TE WIKI O TE REO MĀORI + TE PŪ ĀIO! 💚

We’re kicking off the 50th anniversary of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori with AWHI co-founder Jase Te Patu (Ngāti Apa, Ngāti Ruanui, Ngāti Tūwharetoa) who’ll deliver our Sunday 10am Heated Flow class entirely in te reo Māori! KOHA ENTRY supports Red Door Recovery

No experience in asana/yoga or te reo Māori required — Haere mai!

It seems especially important to recognise and actively promote Te Wiki o te Reo Māori this year in light of the myriad political decisions to rollback / deprioritise te reo across educational, cultural & social institutions around Aotearoa (oops, I mean ‘New Zealand’! Arohamai, Winston!).

We tautoko (errrr, ‘support’…!) the huge efforts made by Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori / in the revitalisation and sustained promotion of te Reo Māori and Te Ao Māori in Aotearoa. As a small tangata tiriti-run business, we pledge to keep deepening our knowledge and sharing of te reo / te ao Māori in culturally appropriate ways - e.g., (‘e.g.’ being the Latin phrase ‘exempli grati,’ which means “for example” which is not complicated at all…🙄) by making a conscious effort to ensure AWHI remains a space where te reo Māori is spoken and heard, where the English, Sanskrit and te reo Māori names for asana (poses) are used interchangeably; where you aren’t shamed for giving it a go; where delivering a class entirely in te reo isn’t sanctioned as “off brand” ( )…and any other suggestions or ideas you want to bring to the whare! 🏠

🌟Rātapu 14 o Hepetema / Sunday 14th Sept, 10am-11:30am: 90 minute Heated Flow. KOHA ENTRY.

WHAT TO BRING:
Bring a mat, towel, a koha if you can (sometimes a smile is enough); water bottle and your friends/whānau!

💚 Te Pū Āio = the wellspring of peace. Yoga. Kia kaha te reo Māori! 👊👊🏼👊🏽👊🏾👊🏿

No experience necessary in either yoga asana or te reo to participate; this session are open to all levels of practice.

At AWHI you get the same warm welcome whether you're just popping in for the day or whether we see you every day! 🥰

It's important to us that you feel like you belong. We aim to manaaki everybody who walks through the door, so we love hearing that our visitors leave feeling like part of the community from Day 1!

We know it can be intimidating to walk into a yoga studio for the first time, but we promise to do our best to make it feel like home.... 🏡 Haere mai!

It’s true, as witnessed today: All good things come in threes! 💚

Awhi Yoga & Wellbeing

AWHI ~ pronounced “uffy” (verb) to embrace, hug, support, cherish. Your community, your wellbeing - mind, body & spirit.

Our kaupapa here at Awhi Yoga & Wellbeing is based on Te Whare Tapa Whā, the four pillars of Hauora or Wellbeing. We feel that within a supportive community or Whānau, mindful movement & physical health - Tinana - can support our mental & emotional wellbeing - Hinengaro - and thus connect us to our Wairua, spirit or sense of connection and purpose in the world. Supporting you to live into the fullest expression of yourself alongside those you love.

We also feel there are many ways to access our wellbeing which is why we offer a range of classes from Vinyasa flow Yoga (heated & non-heated) to gentle Yin Yoga, Meditation, Yin Therapy, Pilates, live music Yoga events, self development programs, retreats & trainings. All this wrapped in a supportive community - Awhi Yoga & Wellbeing. Come join us.
