Carolyn visited our home to play beautiful music on her Celtic style harp. Carolyn has begun a deep exploration into the fields of sound therapy, vibration, resonance and therapeutic music. She believes that the harp's resonance can help heal the human spirit. Carolyn is the Principal Harpist for the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and listening to her play was such a joy for us all.

We hope you enjoy this photo update of the things we have been enjoying this week. One of our residents loves watching The Chase. It's his favourite show! We enjoyed some crafts as we prepared decorations for St Patrick's Day. We danced together to stay active, and one of our residents helped us out by folding the linen.

Here are some photos of our activities last week.

We enjoyed a lovely outdoor afternoon tea, where residents made the most of the fresh air and sunshine while sipping on fizzy drinks together. It was a wonderful opportunity to relax and socialise.

Our garden continues to thrive with the help of our residents, who take pride in watering and caring for it regularly. Residents also gain great pleasure from feeding the birds in our outdoor space.

One of our residents, who is particularly artistic, enjoyed spending time colouring and expressing his creativity, and we had some fun playing board games.

Over the Christmas period we were delighted to welcome a number of visitors.

The Salvation Army Band came to play their brass instruments for us, and we enjoyed seeing our very special visitors -the children, who came to sing Christmas carols. On Christmas day we had a wonderful visit from Santa Claus who distributed gifts to our residents, bringing great joy to everyone.

Christmas is a little different for each of us. It can be a time of joy and celebration – but it can also be a season that feels more heavy, quiet or complicated. However this Christmas finds you, we send warmth your way. May you experience moments of peace and comfort. Wishing you a very happy Christmas.

Recently, we enjoyed a scenic van outing around Miramar’s bays, passing by the library, the petrol station, the bus station, the tunnel, the supermarket and the iconic Weta Workshop. The residents were chatty and cheerful as they discussed bus stops and traffic lights.

One resident joked about forgetting her swimsuit, and everyone agreed it was a perfect day for a dip in the water.

We soon passed by the school where boys were playing rugby. One of our gentlemen proudly commented “Oh yes, I’m a coach!".

We recently marked National Awareness Week for Diversional and Recreational Therapy. This year’s theme was He Kākano, He Tipu – From Seed to Growth.

"Growth happens through care, nurture, and connection. Just as a seed needs soil, water, and sunlight, people flourish when they are supported with creativity, empathy, and companionship.” (Society of Diversional and Recreational Therapists)

Our activities team’s vital work helps our residents to feel good. It enhances their quality of life by building connection, bringing a sense of belonging and purpose, and helping to keep minds and bodies active.
