"You cannot fail at being yourself". Wayne W. Dyer

The challenging part is knowing who you truly are without the conditioning and beliefs created by things like external expectations. The journey to knowing who you are is hard and takes time but is so so worth it.

Happy January 1st!

I don’t know about you but I am certainly happy about saying goodbye to last year and having a ‘fresh start’.

For the last couple of weeks I’ve disconnected from my device which has been so calming and restorative (despite a few other challenges over that time). I didn’t put pressure on myself to ‘show up’ on social media and instead read actual books and enjoyed just being outside without needing to distract myself with anything.. The most amazing thing about doing this was the increase in connection I have felt to family and friends - especially our 2 girls and the experiences we had. We said no to more things so that we could just enjoy slow days together doing simple things.

The plan this year is to keep this awareness around where to disconnect so that more connection can be felt in the areas that are important to me. Is this something you'd like to focus on too?

What could you disconnect from? And with that extra space, where would you like to connect more?

If you have or would love to have a focus of connecting more to yourself please join my free group - Hot Minds - where all our focus is on improving the relationship you have with yourself and especially on your mental wellbeing.

HOMEGROWN VEGE LOVE

The girls love it too. Eating strawberries and tomato’s straight off the plant. Checking if things are ready- like Miss 2 checking out the eggplant.

Even if the carrots are ugly they’re still delicious! (Yes, next time I’ll dig the soil deeper).

What once felt like a chore, is now so satisfying- even weeding! Gardening is now an important part of my self care as it’s so calming and healing 🤗

SLOW DOWN TO FEEL MORE

Learning to slow down and just be has been one of the most beneficial self care habits I’ve implemented in my life.

And funnily enough, overall I feel more productive and less overwhelmed than before.

How can you slow down in your life? What can you let go of and what can you spend more time doing slowly?

I love these suggestions (below) to boost your mood. So beneficial regardless of what mood you are in. Incorporating some of these self-care tips daily will keep boosting your feel good hormones.

I certainly have many of these suggestions as part of my regular self care routine & notice a significant drop in my mood when that routine slips.

Plus I love moving in the morning, first thing out of bed (before other things get in the way).

Also, when my mood is low, I finding kindness towards others gives me a lift.

Favourite underwear though??? Definitely lacking there. Hmmm Think I need to go shopping … 😉

Which one or 2 would you like to try first?

*Repost: DEPRESSION TIPS:

Shower. Not a bath, a shower. Use water as hot or cold as you like. You don’t even need to wash. Just get in under the water and let it run over you for a while. Sit on the floor if you gotta.

Moisturize everything. Use whatever lotion you like. Unscented? Poundland lotion? Fancy 48 hour lotion that makes you smell like a field of wildflowers? Use whatever you want, and use it all over your entire dermis.

Put on clean, comfortable clothes.

Put on your favorite underwear. Cute black lacy panties? Those ridiculous boxers you bought last christmas with pink love hearts on the butt? Put them on.

Drink cold water. Use ice. If you want, add some mint or lemon for an extra boost.

Clean something. Doesn’t have to be anything big. Organize one drawer of a desk. Wash five dirty dishes. Do a load of laundry. Scrub the bathroom sink.

Blast music. Listen to something upbeat and dancey and loud, something that’s got lots of energy. Sing to it, dance to it, even if you suck at both.

Make food. Don’t just grab a Kit Kat bar to munch. Take the time and make food. Even if it’s beans on toast. Add something special to it, like a soft boiled egg or some veggies. Prepare food, it tastes way better, and you’ll feel like you accomplished something.

Make something. Write a short story or a poem, draw a picture, color a picture, fold origami, crochet or knit, sculpt something out of clay, anything artistic. Even if you don’t think you’re good at it. Create.

Go outside. Take a walk. Sit in the grass. Look at the clouds. Smell flowers. Put your hands in the dirt and feel the soil against your skin.

Call someone. Call a loved one, a friend, a family member, call a chat service if you have no one else to call. Talk to a stranger on the street. Have a conversation and listen to someone’s voice. If you can’t bring yourself to call, text or email or whatever, just have some social interaction with another person. Even if you don’t say much, listen to them. It helps.

Cuddle your pets if you have them/can cuddle them. Take pictures of them. Talk to them. Tell them how you feel, about your favorite movie, a new game coming out, anything.

May seem small or silly to some, but this list keeps people alive.

*** At your absolute best you won’t be good enough for the wrong people. But at your worst, you’ll still be worth it to the right ones. Remember that. Keep holding on.

*** In case nobody has told you today I love you and you are worth your weight and then some in gold, so be kind to yourself and most of all keep pushing on!!!!

Find something to be grateful for and the little things to look forward to.

May I please get 2 friends to copy and re-post? I am trying to demonstrate that someone is always listening.

Just two. Any two.

Such a lovely idea.

Keeping it simple lately has been a necessity for me, and it definitely has lead to much less overwhelm, and feeling more present. Letting go of many expectations can be challenging but really worth the effort.

What can you let go of or do to keep things simple?

We absolutely must come first!
18/10/2021

We absolutely must come first!

We come first…

Being a Mum is a really demanding job and an enormous responsibility 24/7 - but it’s really important that we don’t lose who we are as individuals during the process of raising our children.

A wise person once said to me, “To be a strong mother, you need to be a strong woman first - and a strong woman takes care of herself so that she can be the best mother that she wants to be”.

I didn’t listen to this advice at the time so I ended up in a heap on the floor following a traumatic time with my daughter’s ill health. It took me a little bit to find my way back and learning about self-care played an important part in this. See, up until then, I was made to believe that doing something for yourself was selfish or indulgent as a mother and that it was not okay to put the needs of yourself before your children.

Self-care is not selfish at all and is a beautiful gift that you can role model and teach to your children. It’s about looking after yourself physically, emotionally and spiritually and doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive – it can be as simple as a relaxing bath, a walk, listening to music, doing a meditation or even having a longer shower when your partner is looking after your baby so you can shave your legs and wash your hair!

If we look after ourselves, particularly in times of stress, and continue to do those things that are important to us, that bring us happiness and joy, I believe that we are better mothers for doing so. So have a think about the things that bring you simple pleasures, that fill your soul and try really hard to incorporate at least one thing into your daily life.

Being open to trying new things, veering away from your regular routine (even if only briefly) can be magical for your mood and energy.

Part of your brain loves and craves novelty. Another part (your 'critter' brain) tries hard to keep you where you are and 'safe'. But ignore that pull back for a moment and go have fun! The more you move out of your comfort zone, the more it grows and the calmer your critter brain will get.

What is something new you'd like to try, no matter how small? Maybe something you've been thinking about for a while? Be open this month, and give it a go!

MORNING MOVEMENT IS MAGICAL

What an energy and mood boost it gives you. It is the absolute best thing to start the day with. Instead of being reactive from the moment you get up, you will feel inspired and more in control.

Looking back on the times I felt my best, movement in the morning was definitely present. It's my best anti-anxiety drug and hormone balancer.

Day 1 of lockdown (in NZ) 18 August, I decided to do Yoga every morning - I haven't missed a day yet. Some days its only 10 mins and sometimes I have 2 kids climbing all over me or joining in next to me. Afterwards, I am calmer, happier, more energised and motivated. It is honestly my #1 self-care practice and so worth the commitment.

Whats the one thing that if you did everyday you know would make you feel amazing?
How can you ensure that this becomes a priority for you?

DO YOU BREAK PROMISES TO YOURSELF?

It’s so easy to let yourself down because you’re the only person to answer to.

But making and keeping small daily promises to yourself can unleash some amazingly positive flow-on effects. Generating self-respect, self-love and confidence will be the result of consistently treating yourself as the most important person in your life.

Things you find hard will start to feel easier, you’ll feel motivated to achieve in other areas and you may feel more content.

When I’m consistent with prioritising my non-negotiables, not only do I feel elated, but suddenly the things I normally procrastinate on I have energy for and I become more decisive.

What small (keep it tiny) promise can you make today that you can commit to on a daily basis?

23/09/2021

I SWEAR BY SELF CARE

When it slips, I do too. It’s so noticeable when I’m not doing enough. When it’s a priority in my life, everything else just flows more smoothly.

I’m on a mission to empower others to empower themselves (& others). The first step I focus on is quality and authentic self-care. You can’t expect to experience what you desire without first feeling your best.

What stops you from prioritising yourself and your well-being?
