It’s always a pleasure to have our Pasifika nursing students come through on placement, the next generation of Pacific health leaders developing expert skills, building lifelong connections, and becoming part of the Pacific Health Service Hutt Valley aiga. 🙌🏽
Sera Tufuga from Te Pūkenga’s journey is a great example. A young mother, daughter, and sister who reminds us that with heart, determination, and the love and support of family, anything is possible. Her dedication reflects the strength of our Pasifika people and the bright future ahead for Pacific health leadership. 🩺
We wish Sera all the very best for her state finals next month. Her strong work ethic, humility, and eagerness to learn have already shown us the incredible nurse she is becoming. To all our Pasifika students, if you want to make a difference in your community, start studying now for a future in healthcare or social services. 👏

In my last week in Bali I met with a Javanese Traditional Healer 🧘
🌎 Wellbeing without Borders - TUPU OLA 🌎
💆♀️Other than having (Samoan) Fofō, (Māori) Mirimiri and (Japanese origin) Reiki, I have never tried other traditional healing practices with a Traditional healer.
I searched high and low for a traditional Balian healer and was blessed to find Fajar here. Who is actually not a Balian, but a similar healer who hails from Java (another island in Indonesia 🇮🇩)!
🧠 From Fajar I received a palm reading, massage and knowledge about traditional Javanese healing. Some include the ingredients he uses in the medicines he creates.
These are some of the ingredients he gives his patients with colds and flus, headaches and heart problems 🫚🍋👃🧘
Have any of you partaken in traditional healing therapies? Even in your own culture? Some things my Nana swore by were Tiger balm, Lemon, Lauki and good ol Vicks lol

Almost three months in, The Brothaz Hutt Valley Movement is already making waves, and we’re only just getting started! 👏
Led by Derek, Tonu’u, and Antonio, this campaign - a collaboration between Pacific Health Service Hutt Valley and Hemisphere is dedicated to empowering Pasifika men of all ages. It creates a space to connect, talanoa, reflect, and grow in strength and brotherhood.
Brothaz Hutt Valley is not just another digital platform, it’s a movement to break cycles and uplift our men through open conversations, shared lived experiences, and culturally grounded support.
Each week, we feature stories from local Pasifika champions who generously share their health journeys and stories that inspire, challenge, and uplift. Their voices remind us that prioritising wellbeing is a sign of resilience, not weakness.

Pacific Health Service Hutt Valley is excited to continue strengthening our partnerships with Pacific communities of practice. This includes our Cook Islands community here in the Hutt Valley. As part of our partnership to promote health and wellbeing. We recently, joined Oire Te Whanganui-a-Tara's Ura Fit activity as part of their preparations for the Te Maeva Nui 2025, the biggest Cook Islands festival in the world, taking place in Auckland next month. 🇨🇰
It was a powerful opportunity to connect with both participants and the many supporters in attendance, where our staff shared meaningful conversations around health and wellbeing. We also heard from Te Hau Winitana, owner of Inano Dance, whose years of cultural dance leadership are helping prepare her team for this incredible journey.
We are excited to walk alongside our Cook Islands families, championing health, fitness with a strong focus on our Pacific ways of movement and being active like tradtional dance, ensuring positive we keep our communities moving and active in the Hutt Valley. 🙌

🎙️More than just your Tribe🎙️
🌎 Wellbeing without Borders - TUPU OLA 🌎
🗣️For today's Tupu Ola Talks, I spoke to about his culture, well-being and more! But the message in this video encompasses the whole reason for TUPU OLA itself!
🛐Religion is a big part of Indonesian culture and their overall wellbeing.
🙏 For Theo, love and the values of his religion shouldn't just be reserved for Sunday, or for just the people of your own culture or Tribe.
Love is universal, understanding differences in other cultures or religions, and loving them regardless - that is his belief, and that is part of how he finds his happiness (as well as more that will be posted in another Tupu Ola Talks reel!!). ♥️
🤷Doing this does not mean you have to become that other culture or convert to other religions, but it frees your conscious from holding your guard up against it, and taking that weight off your back, allowing you to love more, and feel more 🙂↕️
As we know in our well-being structures like Fono Fale, or Te Whare Tapa Whā, our well-being isn't just sustained through our physical or mental state. Our "healthiest" selves also includes our spirituality and community, yes we can still prioritize OUR village, but how sees it is, that loving and accepting further from our tribe only STRENGTHENS these pillars in our fale further 🙏♥️💪

We are so proud of our Pasifika leaders who are stepping up for City Wide roles that will shape the future of our communities at large. Your courage, strength, and determination inspire us all, and most importantly, they light the way for the next generation.🌺
As the Samoan proverb reminds us, Tautua nei mo sou manuia a taeao - Serve now for a better tomorrow. It speaks to the heart of Pacific leadership: serving with humility and purpose today so that our children and the generations to come can thrive.
And as the Tongan saying teaches us, Holo pē tu'u, he ko e ngalu 'e fasi - Stand firm, for the waves will break. It is a call to resilience and courage, reminding us that no matter how strong the storms, they will pass if we remain steadfast and true.
We see you, we believe in you - grounded in the wisdom of our ancestors and uplifted by the unshakable strength of our Pasifika spirit. Good luck to everyone!
🗳️ Now it’s our turn to step up - vote, have your say, and help shape the future. Be part of the change and let your voice be heard.
