Congratulations to the members of the Pacific Expert Advisory Group (PEAG) a collective of Pacific leaders providing independent expert strategic advice and cultural guidance to the Ministry of Health, including our very own Nurse Practitioner Catherine! 👏🏽
The PEAG helps shape policies and programmes that reflect the health needs and aspirations of Pacific peoples across Aotearoa, supporting access to timely, quality health care for our communities.
🌿 The group’s role includes:
• Delivering strategic advice
• Supporting Te Mana Ola: The Pacific Health Strategy
• Contributing to quality assurance
• Monitoring Pacific health priorities
• Engaging with the Minister of Health and senior leadership
With six members appointed for a two-year term and supported by the Ministry, this group brings Pacific knowledge, lived experience, and community voice to the decision making table.
We are so proud to see Nurse Practitioner Catherine Tuakalau representing with excellence and heart. 🌺

✨Faith‑Led. Family‑Centred. Community‑Strong
The Faith Led program at Pacific Health Service Hutt Valley has launched. And today we are starting with The Church of the Latter Day Saints (Lower Hutt).
Faith-led is a 12‑week programme supporting Pacific wellbeing through activities, movement and support focussed on four aspects of our faith, food, fitness and family.
🌿FAITH: The Best Version of Ourselves. It starts from within. We believe that through Christ, we find the strength to become the best version of ourselves—mentally, spiritually, and physically. As Philippians 4:13 reminds us, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Your health journey is a walk of faith!
🍎FOOD: Food as Medicine.
We’re returning to the roots of healing. We view food as medicine, nourishing the bodies God gave us with intention and care. Based on 1 Corinthians 10:31, every meal is an opportunity to honor our health and fuel our future.
👟FITNESS: Movement is Joy
We don’t just exercise; we celebrate what our bodies can do! From community walks to group sessions, we move to stay vibrant for our children and our elders.
❤️FAMILY: Better Together
No one walks this path alone. In the spirit of Ecclesiastes 4:9, we are a "village" of support. When one of us succeeds, we all succeed. Our strength is in our connection.
Church groups. Community groups. Organisations.
This journey is for you. Spaces are open - contact us now to enrol your group in the Faith‑Led Programme.

Leading the development and maintenance of a healthy Pacific Community in the Hutt Valley
Pacific Health Services Hutt Valley is an independent health service working closely with our Pasefika community of 12,000 people in the Hutt Valley north of Wellington. We provide community engagement, development, support, health services and social services. Our focus is A Vibrant Healthy Pasefika community in the Hutt Valley. We have delivered value to Pasefika people since 1999.
Our Pasefika family-centred approach reinforces family strengths, provides appropriate support and empowers families to live well with greater control over their lives. We are very well connected as a core part of our community and our approach is based on socio-cultural evidence about what works. This includes working through established community networks and a focus on faith-led approaches to service delivery. The nine explicit premises from the Family Centre Report offer a good description of our Pasefika family-centred approach.

Our funding partners include: Hutt Valley DHB; Ministry of Health; Ministry of Social Development; and the new Ministry for Vulnerable Children. Over the next three years, we will deepen these partnerships and add new partnerships. We will develop our community relationships to attract greater levels of charitable donation and support. Consolidating our service offering will also allow us to develop partnerships with philanthropic organisations with an interest in progressing our vision for our Pasefika community in the Hutt Valley.
Our Board is made up of representatives from the main Pasefika groups in the Hutt Valley, co-opted representatives (e.g. representing Youth) plus independent directors as required to provide the skills and experience the Board requires. We will continue to develop our governance capability to take us forward and deliver on our purpose.
Our staff are passionate about our community and bring the skills and experience needed to deliver quality service. Over the next three years, we will continue to develop our service and leadership skills and invest in technology to assist staff in their work. Our current staffing is 11 (9FTE).
Over the next three years, we will consolidate the range of services we provide for our people. This is about filling current gaps in the services we offer and deepening our quality and evaluation processes.
