An award-winning health and social services organisation serving the Hutt Valley

Pacific Health Service Hutt Valley was proud to deliver our second Empowering Digital Care: A Design Masterclass in Pacific Health Innovation - and our first in Aotearoa, following the inaugural session held in Singapore in 2025. 🙌🏽
Jointly hosted with Te Puna Hauora - School of Health, Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington, the masterclass brought together healthcare leaders, practitioners, and designers from Aotearoa and Singapore.
The session created a collaborative space for innovative change makers to share real-world insights on how digital health tools are being applied across hospitals, clinics, and community settings - with a strong focus on Pacific health innovation and equity.
💎Through distinguished speakers and fireside discussions, we explored how design-led approaches can enable more accessible, inclusive, scalable, and truly people-centred care. Key focus areas included integrating remote care, rethinking workforce roles, and applying behavioural insights to better support patients, families, and staff - moving beyond simply digitising services towards reimagining value-based models of care. We also heard how Tofa Mamao as a Pacific cultural framework can anchor digital transformation.
We extend our sincere thanks to our speakers, partners, and attendees for contributing to meaningful dialogue and action. Together, we are shaping a more connected, culturally responsive, and future-focused health system. 🙏🏼

🚨 LOWER HUTT WEATHER UPDATE
While it’s looking like a beautiful day in the Hutt Valley, it’s important we stay prepared for any sudden changes 🌦️
Here are a few things you can prepare ahead of time:
💊 Have your medications ready - make sure you have enough to last a few days
🔌 Charge your devices - phones, power banks, and essential equipment
🚗 Avoid unnecessary travel if conditions change
👨👩👧👦 Check in on Aiga - especially elders and those needing extra support
💡For FREE health advice call Healthline 0800 611 116, In an emergency call 111 or visit your nearest Emergency Department.
Heads up Te Awa Kairangi ki Tai / Lower Hutt
We’re expecting strong winds and heavy rain this weekend from Tropical Cyclone Vaianu.
Here’s how you can prepare:
🐶 Make a plan for your whānau and pets.
⚠️ Bring inside or securely tie down anything that could be picked up or damaged by strong winds. If you have a trampoline, turn it upside down and tie it down firmly.
🍃 Remove loose items and debris from around your property—branches and firewood can become dangerous in high winds.
🏡 Check in on neighbours, friends, and anyone who may need support.
🗑️ Clear leaves and debris away from drains to help prevent flooding.
🔦 Prepare for power outages. Be ready with torches and fully charge your phones and power banks and check you have data or credit on your phone.
⚠️ Remember, if you see rising flood water, evacuate immediately to higher ground. Do not wait for an official warning.
🚗 Delay travel if you can, and take extra care on the roads. Especially in heavy rain, strong winds, or if there is surface flooding.
Stay up to date on the Hutt City Council page.

Mentorship is the cornerstone of progress, but true leadership is defined by the commitment to invest in others. 🙏🏽
Recently, our PHSHV team were privileged and had the honor of learning from two giants of NZ's healthcare system who embody this philosophy.
Massive heartfelt gratitude to Chai Chuah and Dr Sisira Jayathissa for your incredible investment in our team’s growth.
The Highlights:
1. A Dialogue with Chai Chuah: Hearing from a former CEO of HVDHB and Director-General of Health provided a rare, high-level perspective on resilience and vision. Every person in the room was captivated, it was a masterclass in what it means to lead with purpose and the courage to lead through change.
2. Clinical Governance with Dr. Sisira Geriatrician and former Chief Medical Officer at Hutt Hospital: By breaking down Clinical Governance frameworks, Dr. Sisira delivered a vital message: these structures aren't just for clinicians, everyone has a role to play. This message of shared accountability landed perfectly with the team.
Thank you, Chai and Dr Sisira, for breathing fresh inspiration into our work and for your continued dedication to invest and mentor the health leaders our NZ system needs.
