TΔ“nā koutou,

The team at NZMSA would like to send an announcement to the current Trainee Interns applying through ACE for PGY1 positions for next year.

A few applicants might have received calls from ACE this week, asking them to extend their preferences to include other employers. We understand this may cause some concern, as this was likely a call you were not expecting. However, it does not necessarily mean that you won’t receive an offer through ACE on 25 August. There are enough positions on offer this year to employ all applicants, and so we expect most (if not all) NZ-based TIs who have applied to ACE to receive a job offer before the start of the 2026 training year.

In the rare event you are not matched on 25 August, this is not the end of your career. There are many pathways into employment after the match, and NZMSA and your RMSAs (AUMSA, OUMSA, DMSAA, CMSA and WHPSA) are ready to support you every step of the way. NZMSA is committed to being one of those supports and to advocating strongly for you during this process. For the last 2 years, NZMSA has been helping unmatched applicants into jobs, such that every unmatched applicant received an offer both years, and we are preparing for the possibility of doing this once again this year. More information regarding this will be shared later this month.

If you have any concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Vice President Workforce, Ashley, by emailing vpworkforce@nzmsa.org.nz
