We at Woodward Optical find it WILD that hot cross buns are already on the shelves.

But also ecstatic because we're all slaves to those doughy Easter treats.

As such, we have taken it upon ourselves to taste each of the Hot Cross Buns that Lambton Quay has to offer and will report back our findings.

Kicking things off is Woolworth's Caramelised Biscuit Filled hot Cross Buns from their Indulgent range.

PREPARATION: Fraser - microwave. Jim, Janeen and Rachael - toasted

TASTE: Very close to biscoff flavour which, I think we can all agree, brings all the boys from the yard.

TEXTURE: Jim, Janeen and Rachael's had a slightly crunchy outside with the soft dough and gooey biscuit filling that proved heavenly. However also incredibly messy with the melted biscuit centre. Fraser's was equally chaotic eating.

PRICE: $9 for a 4 pack = $2.25 each

ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS: Best to eat this like a donut i.e. do not cut into it with a knife. It is a flavoursome as is, plus with the caramel biscuit centre, there's no chance to throw on your favourite toppings.
It is a messy eat so skip it if you're on a first date.
Perfect option for the 3pm sugar cravings.

FRAME OF THE WEEK!!!

We are back baby! A whole new year calls for a whole new brand.

We have recently taken on the Japanese eyewear brand, Masunaga Optical. It is one of the oldest eyewear companies internationally, even predating MOSCOT starting up in 1905 (where MOSCOT is 1915).
Manufactured in Fukui, Japan where 97% of Japanese-made optical frames come from. However, Masunaga stands alone as the only company in Japan whose factory is in charge of all processes from raw materials to production and finish in an integrated way.

At the close of another year, we want to put out a big thank you to all who has passed through our doors this year.

2025 has been a tough one for many of our Woodwardians and we are thankful to be part of your journey in whatever capacity.

As you all go out onto the boats, bush and parties please remember:
1. Take your glasses off before diving under water.
2. Avoid Lake Taupo - that beast claimed many glasses and sunglasses last Christmas. Legend says it has a taste for it now.
3. Put your glasses in a hard case when off the face.
4. Glasses and sunglasses can be claimed against your content's insurance.

May your holidays be full of laughter, great food and as much rowdiness as you actually want.

We'll see you on the 5th with your repairs and great stories.

FRAME OF THE WEEK!!!

Last one for the year everyone! This time next week there'll be many of us trying on new shirts / jumpers / rash shirts forgetting to take our glasses off and causing all sorts of mayhem.

FRAME OF THE WEEK!

The mornings and evenings may be chilly still but I'm enjoying the short sleeves wear during the days. As such it has inspired this week's frame.
Kaiser from their metal collection has top spot this week. It's bold hexagon shape and combination metal / acetate temple design is a refined touch. A classic and lighter look for this summer.

I know - hate speech at its most frustrating.
This is just a reminder that if you are after contact lenses, new glasses or prescription sunglasses, the time is now to start getting your ducks in a row.

Typically, it takes us 2 weeks to get glasses ready, and some contact lenses can take up to 5 weeks to come in.
