I love a good gadget!

Before acupuncture, I was a dental therapist, so a prepared, hygienic setup is important to me.

Thanks to that background, I still wear PPE when needling, and this UV-C steriliser gives me extra peace of mind when using my cupping and Gua Sha tools.

Shoutout to Andrea / for putting me onto this little unit! 🫧

Yesterday you saw press needles across my DIP joint. Today it's Mini moxa! 🔥

AI meets Chinese medicine.

For those who don’t know, in TCM the pulse (脉, mài) is much more than just BPM. 👆

One of the interesting parts of our trip was trying the AI pulse & tongue diagnosis machine. It scanned our tongues, matched the results with our pulse readings, and generated a TCM diagnosis. It even gave personalised lifestyle advice!

Overall we were intrigued by the accuracy. Although, I wouldn't trust it completely it is fascinating to see how technology is advancing while still honouring traditional wisdom.

One of the small joys of our stay in China was discovering Ju Hua (菊花 / Chrysanthemum) tea always ready to brew at our accommodation. 🌼🍵

I do keep some here in NZ, but usually save it for warmer days. Why? Because in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ju Hua is seen as cooling and soothing—perfect for balancing out excess heat in the body.

It has a delicate floral taste, and you can sweeten it with a little rock sugar if you like.

Today it’s wet and drizzly in Welly, so maybe not the most fitting choice… but let’s be honest, sometimes you just gotta do it for the gram. 😉💛

At the private TCM hospital in Beijing, patients are given hospital wear that looks a bit like PJ, plus slippers and even disposable un**es, before treatment.

Notice the buttons also at the back!? Perfect for back points - absolute genius imo!

I really wanted to keep my grey set as a memento, but I handed it back to be laundered. 😭 When I heard the others got to keep theirs, I had to quietly ask if I could also take mine home too.

I wasn't able to get the same grey set, but I was issued the peach version to take home!
