It’s “labs are vital” awareness week, so my amazing colleague Zaria is sharing the filtering process that takes place to ensure red cells can be safely transfused to a patient.

This is just one small (and vital) part of what our amazing scientists and technicians at do every day to ensure the safe supply of blood, blood products and tissue across Aotearoa 💕

Another regular day at the Wellington Donor Centre.

Thank you to all of the wonderful donors who shared their treats with us! It would be a very spooky world without lifesavers in it 💕

It’s almost the end of the spooky season! As the blood service, we are sometimes referred to by donors as vampires… endearingly, we presume 😅

So what better way to celebrate the penultimate night of October than with a vampire-themed meme dump 🎃👻🧛

Tino kino te pai Beth! It’s been a huge privilege having Beth as one of our volunteers for longer than we’ve been a national Blood Service!

It’s apheresis awareness day!

The purpose of Apheresis Awareness Day is to raise awareness of apheresis medicine and honor the many donors, patients, scientists, technicians, and health care professionals who are part of the process!

Our plasma and platelet donors are our amazing apheresis donors - Apheresis is a process in which a machine removes part of the blood (plasma, platelets, stem cells or granulocytes) from a person’s bloodstream then returns the rest to the body. 💕

Honestly I think everyone who works here is a huge fan - we’re in an incredibly privileged position of knowing our mahi makes a difference, getting to interact with lifesavers, and seeing how blood transfusion services help patients every day 💕
