It’s our first Reo Rāhina for 2026 - that’s where we share kupu Māori all to do with blood transfusion services!

or
Mate whawhati tata
which means emergency.

More than 20% of blood products in Aotearoa are used to treat patients in accidents and emergency situations, so ohotata is very important kupu.

You don’t have to be one of the 3 wise men to give gold.

Plasma’s known as liquid gold because of its golden colouring.

It’s the liquid part of the blood, and it’s used to create 11 different lifesaving and lifechanging medications.

To become a golden plasma donor you just need to be between the ages of 16 and 70, be at least 50kg, at least 150cm tall, meet our health criteria, and be super well-hydrated.

Welcome to New Zealand Blood Service - Wellington - Plasma is the golden liquid that makes up more than half of our blood. It’s one of the most precious natural resources we have for saving lives. Plasma is used to create up to 11 life-saving products and can treat up to 50 illnesses from cancer and kidney disease to blood clots and liver failure. Patients all over our country depend on people who are willing to take an hour or two from their day to give a precious gift that can change their life. Coming this Sunday to Wharewaka Wellington City.

As the Head Boy at Scott’s College this year he organised an amazing blood drive at his school AND today he did his 10th donation at our donor centre.

Flynn’s actions have helped save over 150 lives so far - ka rawe!
