Art as protest. Art as truth-telling. Art as healing ❤️‍🩹

Each piece in my art as activism series was created to hold the stories we’re often taught to keep quiet - stories of harm, survival and the fierce strength it takes to rise.

Now available as A4 signed prints, these works are more than art for your walls - they are conversation starters, reminders and acts of resistance ✨

Happy international women’s day to all the beautiful people in my life who have stood by my side, nurtured and supported me and challenged me to grow. And to all the wonderful clients I work with who I have the privilege of supporting on their journeys of healing, you inspire me everyday 🫶🏼

When we advocate for equality and access to equal opportunities for women, we must be focus on the intersectional oppression many women on the margins experience. We are not free until we are all free from harm 🤍

Trauma isn’t just personal it’s shaped by the systems we live in.

From intergenerational trauma rooted in systemic oppression to unequal access to resources, recovery is influenced by the world around us.

Healing becomes a radical act when we acknowledge these factors and advocate for change. It’s not just about individual transformation, it’s about creating equitable systems that support collective recovery.

When trauma occurs, the nervous system may respond with a fight, flight, freeze or fawn response. If the event isn’t able to be fully processed or resolved, this response can become ‘stuck.’

Instead of just storing the factual memory, the body and brain retain the sensory, emotional and physiological aspects of the trauma - making it feel like it’s being relived rather than just remembered.

This is why effective healing approaches address both the mind and body which focus on re-establishing safety, regulating the nervous system so it can move fluidly and also processing or integrating the trauma narrative 🌱

Bilateral drawing is a technique that engages both hemispheres of the brain by using both hands simultaneously, promoting balance between thinking and feeling. 🎨💭 Research shows that bilateral movements can help regulate emotions, reduce anxiety and improve focus by calming the nervous system and enhancing neural communication.

100% yes to this!!!

People who say you are too weird, too passionate, too intense and so on are not your people.

The people that are meant for you will stick by your side and show you through their actions.

Don’t dim your light for anyone in an effort to make them feel more comfortable.

You are so great the way you are and the right people will appreciate it 🫶🏼

Attended the NZAC conference today ✨

I got the privilege to hear from Matt Brown who does amazing mahi alongside his wife to support healing from trauma and stop the perpetuation of violence to keep our women, children and families safe 🤍

Also learnt about Sensorimotor Psychotherapy from Landa van den Bery and Mahi Wairua from Raynor Huia, who both had so much knowledge to share 🫶🏼

Left feeling inspired to continue the work I do supporting survivors of sexualised violence and expanding my toolkit to better serve my people 🦋

Wellbeing is something that we talk a lot about and often people can feel overwhelmed on where to begin… so it got me thinking and I then decided to create a free ebook with different wellbeing practices and worksheets for you to explore. There are four different sections in this ebook which includes mental, physical, spiritual and relational wellbeing 🍃

My why for the work I do✨

There may be similarities in our experiences but also vast differences due to intersectionality.

Until we are all free, safe and empowered my work is not done.
