Thanks to all who attended the inaugural China -New Zealand Forum on Manual Medicine last week.

The forum showcased specialists in Chinese medicine sports medicine , chiropractic research, TCM spinal manual medicine and osteopathy, finding shared principles while valuing the different treatment approaches. The forum encouraged deeper exploration of how to present and pass on the strengths of each tradition —from TCM’s long standing manual therapies to osteopathic tension adjustment techniques and Shi’s Traumatology tendon regulation methods.

A special thanks to our guest speakers, Dr Lifeng Zhou, Prof. Zhan Hongshen, Dr Imran Khan Niazi, Mr Zhen Deng and Mr Yu Rain Zhou. Thank you to AcNZ member Mr Rui Rayman Zhou from the Sports Acupuncture Clinic for his collaborative effort in bringing this event to Auckland.

World Cancer Day 2026 – United by Unique
This year’s theme recognises that every cancer experience is different — and that care should reflect the needs of each individual.

Acupuncture NZ and our members take a moment today to honor the many patients we work with as they move through their unique journeys with Cancer.
By sharing stories, supporting those affected, and advocating for people-centred care, the global cancer community can help drive meaningful change.

Acupuncture and Chinese medicine offer a holistic person-centered approach in the Integrated oncology space. Current research supports the use of acupuncture for cancer related fatigue, pain, anxiety, chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting, and chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy. It supports nervous system regulation which supports emotional wellbeing, sleep and the relief of stress.

If you would like to discuss with one of our registered Chinese medicine practitioners about how acupuncture may benefit you or your loved ones, then head to our find a practitioner page at acupuncture.org.nz 🧡

Summer is our festive season in Aotearoa. We love to get outdoors and also to stay up late with the lighter evenings and warm weather. We might be indulging in foods high in saturated fat, sugar, alcohol and for some spending too much time in the sun. Our bodies can let us know with symptoms such as low energy, tiredness, bloating, feeling stressed, irritability and disturbed sleep cycle.

There comes a point where our bodies do need some replenishment. This comes from having a good night sleep, and Chinese Medicine has some great ways to bring back your energy and wellbeing.

Cooling down, is not only for an overworked digestive system from all the indulgent foods and alcohol, but also from spending too much time in the sun.

🍉Watermelon, coconut water, and just plain water, all at room temperature, not straight out of the fridge.
🍵Teas such as chrysanthemum flower tea, hibiscus tea, mint or peppermint are all great, have them warm or room temperature.
🍝Adding in mung bean sprouts to your meals
🌳Getting some time in the shade
🔍You can also find a registered practitioner to get a tailored plan and help you get back on track in 2026.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
A 2024 study published in the Cancer journal provided results from three parallel clinical trials comparing a 10-week course of twice-weekly acupuncture treatments to regular care for relief from the menopause-like side-effects of oestrogen-blocking medications in early-stage breast cancer. "64% of participants in the acupuncture group experienced fewer and less severe hot flashes compared to just 18%" receiving regular care https://blog.dana-farber.org/insight/2024/08/acupuncture-for-hot-flashes-with-breast-cancer-treatment-your-questions-answered/
