February is Heart Health Month ❤

A heart attack is the leading cause of death in Aotearoa New Zealand. Heart attacks don't always present as severe pain over your left arm and chest, check out the picture to see what other warning signs there are.

The warning signs can also differ if you have diabetes, warning signs can include shortness of breath and unexpected nausea.

For women, heart attacks can differ from those in men. While women can experience the signs in this image, they can also have pain that comes and goes between the abdomen and upper back and extreme fatigue. Some women also experience no chest pain or discomfort.

If you think you, or someone near you, might be having a heart attack call 111 immediately.

Do you know if you have good overall heart health? We offer cardiovascular screening appointments with our nurses for all men and women to check their cardiovascular health.

Depending on your age, ethnicity and family history the recommended screening age can vary. If you would like to have a cardiovascular risk assessment done, please call us on 04 387 9758 to book an appointment with a nurse.

From 1 February General Practitioners and Nurse Practitioners (practitioners) can start medical treatment for patients 18+ who have a confirmed ADHD diagnosis.

If you think you have ADHD, please book an appointment with your usual practitioner; a standard consultation fee will apply to this appointment. If your practitioner thinks an ADHD diagnosis is worth exploring, they will refer you to a provider for the diagnostic assessment. Our preferred provider is Te Wheke. You can also self-refer through their website - www.tewheke.org.nz. Please note that these providers will have their own separate fees for the assessment and they will advise you when you book.

If the provider diagnoses ADHD, you will be contacted by us to book an 'ADHD Medication Start' appointment. These appointments will vary between 15-45 minutes depending on your medical history, and may be with your regular practitioner or another practitioner experienced in starting ADHD medication. Appointment fees will apply.

Following the start of your medication, you will need to visit your regular practitioner within 2-4 weeks for a standard consultation to review your medication.

If you want to explore your potential ADHD diagnosis, please call us on 04 387 9758 to book an appointment with your GP.
