We hope that you have a safe and healthy holiday season but if you do need assistance we are open for shorter hours over the peak Christmas / New Year period from Dec 24th to Dec 31st. (Please note: we are closed on the public holidays). For our hours please see the photo attached or go to our website www.newlandsmedical.co.nz/news/summer-hours/

We will also have reduced staffing levels as our team enjoy the holiday period with their whānau and friends. We would appreciate it if appointments on these shorter days could be used for acute medical matters, accidents, etc.

Please phone us as usual and if we are not able to assist you have the option of a virtual consultation with Practice Plus. This is available via their website www.practiceplus.nz – their fees apply.

If you require an appointment for a routine matter, eg your long-term condition, please book an appointment in the New Year with your usual GP.

We wish you a happy holiday season and appreciate your support in 2025.

We are currently experiencing a high demand for appointments and, coupled with reduced GP capacity, this means that you may not get an appointment as quickly as you are used to with us. We apologise for this.
Please be reassured that if your need is urgent one of our nurses will assess you over the phone and determine the best option for you.
If your need is not urgent, and we are fully booked, there are other options available. These include:
• Deferring your appointment until the New Year if you do not need to be seen sooner
• Accessing a virtual consultation via Practice Plus www.practiceplus.nz – their fees apply
• Visiting Wellington AfterHours in Adelaide Rd, Newtown who are open 8am to 9pm and no appointment is necessary. (their fees apply)
Thank you for your understanding and kindness to our team who are doing their best to help our patients.

Same day virtual GP appointments to suit you and your whānau. We help connect you with trusted medical care quickly, as an extension to your regular medical centre team and GP.

With summer holidays coming up, please be aware of measles, especially if you’re travelling overseas. ✈️

✅ Heading overseas? Measles outbreaks are occurring in New Zealand and other countries. Protect yourself and your whānau:
✅ Check your status: If you were born after 1 Jan 1969 and haven’t had two MMR doses, you’re at risk.
✅ Plan ahead: Immunity takes about a month to develop. Ideally, get vaccinated a month before travel (two vaccines, four weeks apart) if you’re not already protected.
✅ Babies (4–12 months): An extra “MMR dose zero” may be recommended for international travel. Ask your healthcare provider.

Watch for symptoms: 🤒 High fever | 🤧 Cough and runny nose | 👀 Red eyes | 🔴 Rash starting on face

Think you might have measles? Do not visit clinics or ED unannounced. 📞 Call Healthline (0800 611 116) or your GP first.

Check your immunity: http://spr.ly/6187743uB or call 0800 28 29 26 for help checking.

This time of year can get so loud that it’s easy to forget what actually matters. It’s not the gifts or the pressure to make everything perfect. It’s the people you get to sit beside. That’s what you’ll remember years from now.
