Telemedicine service…
If you need medical help when we are closed, or if you are not sure if you need to go to the Wellington After Hours clinic, you can access online video appointments.
Health NZ / Te Whatu Ora have introduced a new service for 24/7 online virtual consultations with either a GP, Emergency Medicine doctor, or Nurse Practitioner.
One of the approved providers is Practice Plus who we continue to promote as an option when you cannot be seen by us.
Fees for this service are subsidised for children under 14yrs, young people aged 14-17yrs, and those patients who hold a Community Services Card.
If you are registered on the patient portal, MyIndici, you can book directly from there. Otherwise their website is practiceplus.nz
For more info on this service, and the fees, go to info.health.nz/onlinegp

Te Wiki o te Reo Māori - 14th to 20th Sept 2025.

Kia ora
We are proud to celebrate Māori Language week which is marking its 50th year in 2025.
To keep a language alive it needs to be used – ake ake ake (forever and ever) - adding the occasional word into your daily conversations is a great place to start. Here are some that you could try:
Kia ora – hello
Kapai – well done, good job
Mā te wā – see you later
Mahi – work
Nēhi – nurse
Tākuta – doctor
Kaimihi – receptionist
Whānau – family
Mokopuna – grandchild
Tamaiti – a single child
Tamariki – multiple children
Noho mai – sit with me
Tū mai – stand with me

We already have bilingual signage in the practice but for Te Wiki o te Reo Māori we will also have a Māori music playlist playing.

Kia kaha te Reo Māori (Let’s make the Māori language strong).

Ever gone to the GP for one thing… and left having forgotten to mention the actual reason you went? 😅

It’s the classic “I’ll remember once I get there” strategy. Spoiler: we never do.

Pro tip: jot it down before you go - your future self will thank you (and so will your GP).

Measles cases confirmed in Wairarapa

Four cases of measles have been confirmed in the Wairarapa region. Measles can spread quickly, especially among those who aren’t immunised.

Symptoms include high fever, cough, runny nose, sore red eyes, followed by a rash.

If you or your whānau have symptoms, stay home and call your GP/health provider or Healthline on 0800 611 116.

Your best protection against measles is immunisation. It's not too late to catch up if you haven't been immunised or haven't had two doses. The MMR vaccine is free for most people and protects against measles, mumps, and rubella. Check your immunisation status today.
