We wish we didn’t have to share this.
This video shows a man and his helpers, over two days, dumping furniture and mattresses at our HospiceShop Warehouse on Borrell Ave (open 6 days a week for donations). We don’t know who they are — but what we do know, is how upsetting this is for us.

It’s disheartening, and honestly, it makes us angry.

We ask that people only donate items that are saleable — things you would be happy to buy yourself. Instead, we now have to pay hundreds of dollars to dump what was left here, money that should be helping us care for people in our community who are really sick and have terminal illnesses.

Every dollar we spend removing rubbish is a dollar we can’t spend on essential care and equipment.

The $500 it will cost to dispose of this could have bought a wheelchair — helping a patient stay mobile and connected with the people they love.

Please, before you “donate”, think about the impact.

Our HospiceShops exist to raise vital funds so we can continue to care. Dumping rubbish at our fences only takes that care away.

Powering comfort, one battery at a time!
Our syringe drivers are small but mighty. They deliver a continuous flow of medication to help manage pain and other symptoms — providing comfort and peace for people receiving our care.

For both patients and their families, having a reliable way to manage symptoms provides a sense of reassurance and control.

Syringe drivers can be placed in a carry bag or pouch when a patient is mobile, or tucked under a pillow if they’re resting or bed-bound — bringing flexibility, freedom, and dignity to everyday life.

We currently have 30 syringe drivers, and they’re in constant demand due to the difference they make. Each one relies on 9V batteries, which last less than a week. Even with generous support from Panasonic, it still costs us around $248 each month to keep them running.

If you’d like to help us by covering the cost of these batteries for a month — or even part of it — that would be truly magical. Your support will make a difference for those who need it most.

Our awesome Marie, is showing us how to change the battery in a syringe driver.

We care for people with life-limiting illnesses, we are local, and it is free!
