I do now realize the first weekend is Matariki so if you are unable to join in person for one weekend, you are still welcome for the second and I can share resources to keep you up to speed. How relatable, yeah?
How come I love being a mum, but hate this new life?
Does that mean I regret this baby if I miss my old life?
How come I just cannot feed this baby enough, isn't it meant to be 'the best'?
Feeding is so messy, you're not meant to hate it though yeah?
How come I'm so happy, yet so miserable?
How come I don't enjoy this as much as I thought I would?
Does that make me a bad mum?
Why does it feel so lonely when I'm literally always attached to another human?
How come I want help but when offered I turn it down because I don't want to be a bother?

Yet we don't realise how common and okay it is to feel these things!
This is part of matrescence!

I have been doing the Matrescence Practitioners Certification through Matrescence NZ and I am so so excited to be upping my knowledge and understanding of matrescence to bring into the space I work in so expecting parents get an understanding before baby has arrived. Will be supporting in spirit! My baby is recovering from Chicken pox so certainly don't want to risk taking her to a crowded area where there are likely to be many vulnerable hapu māmā and pepi.
The hui was a good eye opener to how much impact one department has on the entire community. Especially when it is something like Obstetrics and Gynecology who don't specialise in the entire population. And that this situation has arisen from factors that are going to flow on to other departments and more whānau. It is special to see such community spirit, although unfortunate that it is for a negative reason so hopefully some of these actions come into place very soon so we can go back to secondary care as soon as possible!
