🌸 Empowering women through menopause and perimenopause 🌸

We’re proud to celebrate the success of our recent Menopause Workshop Series at The Doctors Phoenix! 💜

Over three engaging sessions, women from across our community came together to explore the physical, emotional, and social changes of midlife — with confidence, support, and expert guidance.

Led by Registered Nurse and Women’s Health Coach Gail Rothstein, the workshops offered practical, evidence-based advice on:
💡 Understanding menopause and its impacts
💊 Treatment options including MHT and alternatives
🌿 Lifestyle tools: nutrition, movement, sleep, stress, pelvic health, self-image, and more

Our goal was to empower women to feel informed and confident navigating this life stage.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. The response was incredible, and we’re excited to offer more workshops in future.

Matariki is a special time in Aotearoa – a time to remember those we've lost, celebrate the present with those around us, and look to the future with hope.

As the Matariki stars return to our sky, it's a beautiful opportunity to slow down, reconnect with whānau, and reflect on what matters most.

From all of us at The Doctors, we wish you and your loved ones a peaceful and meaningful Matariki.

🌧️ Seasonal changes can affect your mood — especially with less sunlight, colder days, and more time spent indoors. Feeling a bit low or slow is normal at this time of year. But if it's impacting your daily life, it could be Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) — a type of depression triggered by the seasons.

Small steps can help:
✔️ Get outside in the morning light
✔️ Stay active — even gentle movement helps
✔️ Boost your vitamin D through food or supplements
✔️ Reach out for support

💬 If you or someone in your whānau is facing mental health challenges or looking to make positive behavioural changes, your GP is a great place to start. They can provide guidance, support, and help connect you with the right services in the community.

Struggling to breathe in the colder weather? 💨You’re not alone.

1 in 6 Kiwis live with a respiratory condition, and autumn and winter can make symptoms worse. Cold, damp air and more time indoors can trigger flare-ups — especially for asthma, COPD and bronchitis.

Breathe easier this winter:
✔️ Keep up with flu & Covid vaccines
✔️ Use your medications regularly
✔️ Keep your home warm, dry & ventilated
✔️ Stay active — even short walks help
✔️ Quit smoking, if you smoke
✔️ Chat to your GP or nurse about an action plan

If your breathing feels different or you’re worried, book an appointment with your GP or nurse.

We offer a full range of immunisations to protect tamariki from preventable diseases like MMR, whooping cough, pneumococcal disease, meningitis, and hepatitis B.

✅ Keeping vaccinations up to date helps protect your child and also safeguards vulnerable members of our community, including babies and the elderly.

✨ All immunisations on the National Immunisation Schedule are free for tamariki under 18—no matter their visa or citizenship status.

Missed a vaccination? It's okay-you can still catch up. Just have a chat with your GP or one of our friendly nurses for advice.

💗Managing Menopause: What You Can Do & How We Can Help💗

Menopause is a natural transition, but symptoms like hot flushes, anxiety, and sleep disturbances can feel overwhelming. While every experience is different, small lifestyle changes can help ease symptoms and restore balance.

Four Things That Can Make Symptoms Worse & How to Manage Them:
1. Stress, anxiety & poor sleep – Prioritise rest and try relaxation techniques like meditation.
2. Too much coffee, tea & alcohol – These can worsen hot flushes and disrupt sleep, so limit intake.
3. Smoking – Quitting supports heart & bone health and may reduce symptoms.
4. Hot drinks & spicy foods – Can trigger hot flushes, so avoid where possible.

How We Can Support You:
💖Support Groups – In May, we will be running workshops to support women going through menopause. Please keep an eye on your inbox for updates!
💊 Menopause Hormone Therapy (MHT) – Helps relieve symptoms by replacing oestrogen. Different types have different risks—talk to your GP to see if it’s right for you.
🧠 Lifestyle & Mental Health Support – Nutrition, exercise, and stress management play a big role in menopause and overall well-being. Our team can provide guidance and connect you with the right support.

📅 Book an appointment today to discuss your options and feel more in control of your health.
