Ho; ho; ho; our Christmas thank you lunch was held on Wednesday to thank our friends, family, Board members and our wonderful volunteers. The weather gods were favourable and some of our residents and family members were able to sit outside for lunch.
A HUGE thank you to everyone who assisted with the event. Our kitchen staff once again put on a scrumptious spread of finger food, and the feedback comments were “I couldn’t fit anything else in”! “what a wonderful event”. It is lovely to get good feedback from visitors.
A massive shout out also to our wonderful activities TEAM being Sophia, Audrey, Vicki and Macarena who not only set up the facility with Christmas cheer, but have our ladies and gentlemen engaged in an array of activities daily.
Our successful Thursday writer’s group did a little sing song and volunteer Anne read out a poem written by Faye, who due to ill health, was unable to attend. This small group was started by Macarena earlier in the year and has been very successful.
Thank you to Robert and Richard for coming and singing to everyone. Also, thanks to the line dancers who enjoyed themselves too.
We are so lucky to have a wonderful caring community.
Congratulations to Jason who won the Breville juicer raffle who was donated by Rex and Chalita Wood.
Thank you also to those who took raffle tickets for the other assortment of raffles we had.
Thank you to the knitting ladies Trisha, Dianne and Jan who made knitted toys, baby knitting, Christmas angels and lavender bags (to name a few). Thank you to the Leach family for their donation of New World vouchers, Ocean Sports for a voucher, Vicki P for a bottle of Prosecco and Mumm Champagne. Without your generosity we would not have had such a successful event.
We have an assortment of hand made items in our reception to purchase.
Please take time to read the poem by Faye and the song made by the writer’s group.
Poem by Faye (A Moana House Christmas) inspired by the Night Before Christmas
It’s Moana House and there’s joy in the air; there’s tinsel and laughter and love everywhere.
Joanne shares fruit bursts with a sweet little grin as the festive days’ magic is about to begin.
Joan, of course, is the first to the lounge, on a chair by the window where memories are found.
Lois sits calmy, her needles clicking fast, knitting through Christmas traditions that last.
“Oh, not another year,” Hilda will say, but we all know that she brightens the day.
Elsa stirs tea with a spoon made of gold, her secret to sweetness? brown sugar, we’re told.
Margaret talks proudly of dogs she has known, their stories and barks forever her own.
Shirley P is quietly solving her finds, word puzzles dancing through Christmassy minds.
Delwyn is glowing, her makeup just right, blush like a snowflake, eyes shining bright.
Elaine and Zena have their cards in a row, waiting for B-seventy! – ready to go!
Robbie is wandering, cup in hand, “where’s the good coffee?” you understand.
Alex and Patricia are gently greeting each face, spreading warm smiles all over the place.
Eric will soon be off to town once again, chasing the breeze and dodging the rain.
Carol-Anne is moving, her feet in a line, from line-dancing to carols, she’s doing just fine.
Paul tends to his garden with Morna by his side, in the roses and herbs they take such pride.
Stan raises a glass with a mischievous hum, “Merry Christmas to all, I’ll stick with my rum!”
Ian and Dianne are snoozing, and why ever not? Christmas dreams dancing in one cozy spot.
Gwen pulls her blanket up to her chin, wrapped like a gift with a wide Christmas grin.
Shirley F’s heart is shining so bright, filling the season with pure Christmas light.
If you have questions, worries, doubts in the air, go and see Faye, she is always there.
Bruce, with his wisdom, calm and clear, brings to us all a sense of cheer. Richard in his own quiet way, watches for Santa’s sleigh. He’ll let us know when it’s on its way.
Regina is guiding all who come, making sure we all have fun.
Beverley and Graham bring Christmas cheer, whispering in each other’s ear.
Don’s had enough, he’s made it clear, pack it up, he’s out of here!
Dorothy is a new addition to our crew, we hope she’ll enjoy all that we do.
Together in this festive glow, love and peace forever grow.
So, here’s to the season, to Moana House cheer,
With laughter and love wrapped up in the year.
And we also remember our friends so dear, who sadly are no longer here.
We all are the heart of Moana House, we make this place a home.
We wish you joy and love and laughter wherever you roam.
Moana Bells (to the tune of Jingle bells)
Office staff
Dashing through the halls
Deborah’s got the plan
Schedules, rosters, paperwork
(and sometimes she just ran)
Merril’s on the phone,
reception’s running hot.
Saying “Merry Christmas” while untangling the lot.
Chorus
Oh, Moana bells, Christmas smells,
glitter is in the air,
voices raise, the music swells,
Christmas spirit’s everywhere.
Cleaners
In the halls and rooms so bright
three stars who bring the light,
Nicola, Mark and Claire the team
who make things shine and gleam.
Nasty germs and spills
can make us all get ill
they clean the floors and air, and we’re grateful for their care.
Chorus
Kitchen
In the kitchen flavours rise.
They cook with love, no lies.
From morning toast to evening stew, they feed our souls and bodies too.
Spices dance and kettles sing
They make each meal a warming thing.
With every plate they show their art
The kitchen crew with the biggest heart.
Chorus
Laundry
In the laundry room where socks do hide,
They chase lost un**es with great pride.
Towels stack high, then fall with flair,
Whose bra is that? No, no, don’t stare!
The drier hums like a dancing queen.
Seeing things no one else has seen,
From coffee stains to mystery goo
They scrub it out like legends do.
Chorus
Staff
Macarena’s lovely smile,
Sophia goes the extra mile.
Making sure we all join in
To keep our limbs from giving in.
Pippa guides us with heart and grace,
A gentle smile, a warm embrace,
She helps us learn and helps us grow, more than she could ever know.
Chorus
RNs and Carers
Carers are Moana’s core
All have much love in store,
Richly they care, never poor,
Soothing a sore to the fore.
Calling help from sweet nurse
Saving us going into a hearse.
But all together they ensure we will walk once more
Chorus
Volunteers
Volunteers with smiles so wide
Warm and friendly by our side
They sweep and chat and lend a hand
Quiet heroes who will help us stand
We like their smiling faces
When they call into our places
Chatting with one and all
We’re happy when they call.
Chorus
