HATO HONE ST JOHN 2025 CHANCELLOR COMMENDATIONS

Tēnā tatou katoa

I am delighted to advise that together with the Priory Honours Committee, and on the recommendation of the Regional Honours Committees, I have approved the award of Chancellor Commendation to Beverly (Bev) Way MStJ, Whanganui for services to Hato Hone St John community programmes in Whanganui and the wider community.

Chancellor Commendations are awarded to individuals or groups for meritorious service, actions, achievement or devotion that is of significant benefit to the Order of St John, in New Zealand.

Arrangements will be made for the presentation of framed, signed certificates to these 2025 recipients at suitable local ceremonies.

KNITTED BEANIES FOR WHANGANUI HOSPITAL!

On Friday 21st November 2025 Peter Rennett (President), Anne Rennett (Secretary & Knitter) and Dame Betty Simpson travelled to the Whanganui Hospital Maternity Ward to present 20 knitted beanies for the new babies born in the unit.

Peter explained the purpose of St John Fellowship to the staff and presented the beanies, which had been knitted by Rae Glockling, Anne Rennett and Anne's friend Bromwyn Hutchins.

The beanies will fit all babies from prem to full term. The staff received them gratefully. They explained that they always welcome donations of knitted items for the babies as they are always in demand. The Mum's get to take them home as they often have no suitable clothing to keep their babies warm.

Peter, Anne and Betty committed to supplying more knitted items including singlets and jackets next year. Peter explained to the staff at the presentation that the role of St John is to support the community and the babies are the future of our community so Whanganui Fellowship were happy to support this small part of our community. We are so proud of our team’s dedication. Their support truly makes a difference to local families.

If you have any knitted items made from wool (Merino wool beanies, singlets, and jackets are especially appreciated) and would like to donate them to the hospital, please drop them off at the St John Whanganui office at 25 Tawa St. Office hours are Monday and Friday from 9am to 12pm.

Thank you!
